Today we have a treat for you – a Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink ink review. We haven’t talked Lamy inks in a while, and in the dead of winter, we thought everyone could use a little bit of this charming ink’s warmth and vibrancy. Did you know Lamy pen company releases a new special edition Al-Star and Safari pen each year? Well, their special edition inks are released alongside these highly anticipated pen releases. One such release was Lamy SE Vibrant Pink. Lamy Vibrant Pink ink is actually a bit of a blast from the past that was recently re-released. Ready for more? Let’s start with the ink maker.
All About the Ink Maker: Lamy
Lamy Pens is a well-known and very highly respected German pen and ink company. Lamy inks are known to be basic, inexpensive, and good quality. You have a few options when you’re considering purchasing a Lamy ink:
- Regular Edition Colors (50ml ink bottles in 6 different basic colors)
- Special Edition Colors (50ml ink bottles, each color correlating to a Special Edition Al-Star or Safari pen)
- Crystal Ink Series (30ml ink bottles, 10 more unique colors)
This week’s ink, as previously mentioned, is one of the Lamy Special Edition ink colors.
All About This Week’s Ink Series: Lamy Special Edition Inks
The
Lamy Special Edition inks are designed to match the special edition Lamy Safari or Lamy Al-Star pen collection’s annual special edition releases. As a result, Lamy’s Special Edition inks are generally only available for a short time.
This week’s featured ink is Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink ink.
All About This Week’s Chosen Ink: Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink
Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink ink looks exactly how the name sounds because it’s a classic bright, vibrant, true pink ink (not a light pink). It’s an obvious choice for Valentine’s Day (which is right around the corner). The Vibrant Pink ink has a light saturation. However, it is dark enough tone to be seen clearly on paper. As a result, Vibrant Pink ink is perfect for a variety of projects, cards, notes, journaling, and other fun uses.

It’s Time: Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink Ink Review
Lamy Vibrant Pink ink is one of Lamy’s special edition inks.
For this Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink ink review, we put this brilliant pink ink through our standard ink review tests. The ink review results should give you a better idea of just what you could expect from a Lamy Special Edition ink.
Ink Review Testing Factors (to keep things scientific):
Get a look at the Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink ink review results here.
As usual, we used a
J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen (with a tip comparable to a medium-fine fountain pen nib) on Rhodia dot pad paper. (Remember as you read this review that different papers or different nib sizes may produce different results!)
What Sort of Ink Bottle Does Lamy Use for Special Edition Inks?
Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink 50ml ink with ink splash, ink swatch, and writing sample on Col-o-Ring ink testing book.
Lamy Special Edition inks are packaged in a standard Lamy 50ml glass ink bottle. You’ll notice it’s the same ink bottle used for their regular 50ml inks. Fans of the standard Lamy ink bottle tend to love 1) the attached roll of blotter paper accessible to clean you pen after filling it with ink, 2) the unique basin at the bottom that helps you get the pen filled with ink when the ink level is low, and 3) the wide base and large opening that make it easy to use.
We consider the Lamy ink bottle to be one of the most innovative ink bottles on the market today. The small glass “bump” or nub in the bottle serves as a built-in ink well. The glass extension “bump” isn’t flat, so it’s protected by the surrounding plastic extension that doubles as a “holder” for that convenient ink blotting paper we already mentioned. The entire setup is extremely well thought out and every detail works together; German engineering and design at its best.
How Much Do Inks in Lamy’s Special Edition Collection Cost?
Lamy Special Edition inks are very economically priced. We’d like to point out that German engineerig of this caliber doesn’t usually come this cheap – so take note. Look for the current sale price at PenChalet.com.
How Did This Week’s Ink Fair in the 1-Dip Test?
We use the 1-dip test to see how far one dip can write on paper (dipping the pen into the ink only once). We weren’t sure if Lamy Vibrant Pink ink would pass the 1-dip test since it’s a light saturation ink, but it successfully made it across the paper on all three writing samples. (Using only one dip per writing sample “S” “X” and scribble lines, see the image above).
How Fast Does Lamy Special Edition Ink Dry?
During our ink review, Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink fountain pen ink showed a dry time of approximately 4-5 seconds with light saturation, which is very fast and just another reason this ink is perfect for almost any project.
Does This Week’s Fountain Pen Ink Bleed Through?
We saw no bleeding during normal use on
Rhodia dot pad paper. There was also no bleeding during the heavy saturated cotton swab test.
Was There Any Feathering During the Vibrant Pink Ink Review?
We saw no feathering during normal use, and almost no feathering during the water test.
How Does the Ink Stand Up to Water?
Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink ink is not meant to be waterproof, but we put it to the test anyway. For the water test we let our ink sample dry for about 3 minutes before we run a wet cotton swab over the sample to observe the effect. Here are the results we saw during today’s review:
- very light color smearing
- lines mostly clear and legible
- almost no fading
Does Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink Ink Have Good Shading Traits?
Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink ink showed some nice possible shading traits. If you. have a nib that allows ink flow variation (like a stub or italic nib), you’re more likely to see shading with your inks. We saw from dark pink/light purple to a lighter hue of pink. Again, the shading you see depends heavily on your nib, ink flow, and your penmanship.
Final Conclusion on Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink Ink:
An up close look at the Special Edition Lamy Vibrant Pink ink splash, ink swatch, and writing sample on the Col-o-Ring ink testing book.
Today’s featured ink, Lamy Special Edition Vibrant Pink ink, is very economically priced, especially considering the quality of the ink paired with the feat of German engineering seen in Lamy’s full size 50ml ink bottle. This Special Edition ink is a bright, dark pink with a very quick dry time of 4-5 seconds. Vibrant Pink is a great ink choice for home projects, notes, journaling, Valentine’s Day cards, etc.
However, this re-released special edition ink color won’t last forever! If you miss it, check out the other Lamy Special Edition inks currently available or one of the standard Lamy inks.
