All metal components on the pen, the barrel and the cap, the clip, it's all metal. It has a silver matte color and a glossy finish over that silver matte. Black accents throughout the pen, black clip. You can see on top of the cap the Pelikan logo's printed there in black and then you can see that clip design has a hole here, in the clip in the front, and that clip wraps around both sides and meets in the back of the cap.
Pelikan is printed here at the bottom of the cap, it has a small black band between the cap and the barrel of the pen and at the bottom of the barrel is just a black, little resin cap. The cap on the pen snaps off and it cannot really be posted on the pen. It doesn't feel real secure to me so it can come off, it's not a real secure post but it is postable if you'd like to. Probably would use the pen without that cap posted. The section on the pen is a black, glossy resin finish. It doesn't feel like there's any ridges or anything to get in the way of my grip, so I like the way that it feels in my hand.
The nib on the pen is a stainless steel nib, you can see the Pelikan logo engraved on that nib and the section there on the backside. It's a cartridge converter style pen so to change the ink you unscrew that section from the barrel of the pen. And included with the pen is an ink cartridge, it's an Edelstein ink cartridge and those are a little longer than typical ink cartridges. So the barrel of the pen is actually not real long but it a will accept an ink converter. So if you want to use bottled inks, you can buy a converter for the pen and add that later, either the Pelikan or some of the other standard universal ink converters will work with the pen.
Like I said, it's just a a great starter fountain pen, pretty inexpensive price, the performance on the pen is outstanding, it works really well. I really like the performance of it and the design. Get your Pelikan Stola III Fountain Pen at PenChalet.com!

This is the Pelikan Stola III Fountain Pen. It comes in a grey, cardboard box. Pelikan Stola III Reviews
I like this pen for everyday. The feel and color of ink reminds me of my childhood fountain pens

At first a bit disappointed in the Stola III. Overall, this entry level Pelikan is quite attractive and professional looking. Fit and finish are excellent, with clean, well meshed threads, a nicely smooth silver finish, a bit of weight, and a secure snap cap. If you have large hands, the pen may feel too small as the cap doesn't post. My problem initially was the pen's performance. It would not write at all until after two complete flushes, then still hesitated, skipped, and lay down irregular amounts of ink. The pen improved after loading a different ink and 3-4 days of trying it repeatedly. It finally writes respectably--not scratchy, fairly smooth (though not "gliding"), neither very wet nor dry. Now that performance has improved, I feel the Stola would make an attractive, relatively inexpensive EDC. However, especially at the manufacturer's recommended price point, there are several other pens that in my opinion give a better experience.

I have a habit of eating lunch and coffee breaks at work with Sudoku puzzles when I have more than one pen to try I use a different one every day. These puzzles are on very poor quality paper and I have to be careful not to print through on the next page any hesitation with marking the paper shows all the way through to the third page. An interesting trick I learned is to turn the pen upside down and reduce the flow that way it works surprisingly well. my go to every day pen for years has been a Pilot Knight (I think no linger available) The Stola 111 is better in that it does not dry up when left sitting for a few minutes.
Durring my high school days 1960s I took shorthand and the pen favored was an Esterbrook stenographers pen I think it was a number 5335 the nib was very flexible and you could control the weight of the line. For an example A light vertical line was the sound t and a heavy line was d below the line they became p and b so all my pens get the test and Stolla passed it.

Being a lefty, this pen (medium nib) drags more than I feel it should. If you're willing to change writing styles, over or under, it'll do fine.

Great pen. Except for the inability to post the cap as others have noted. I did not think much of it, but I almost dropped the pen once because I am so used to the posted length when I write. Now I take care. But the pen is excellent.

This is a nice pen. Note: I thought at first I might have a problem because I could NOT get it to write! After trying a couple of things, I removed the cartridge, took the pen to the sink and cleaned it thoroughly with a tiny bit of Dawn dishwashing liquid in water.
I the reinstalled the cartridge and after the ink got to the nib, it was fine. It's a tiny bit heavier than I like, and it doesn't really post, but those are pretty minor considerations for me.
Lesson learned: be diligent about cleaning pens before the first use!
