Robert Oster Red Orange Ink Review & Giveaway

Robert Oster Red Orange Ink is one of 69 fabulous colors of ink produced by this Australian ink company, known for using the Australian pallet to create their ink colors.

Robert Oster Red Orange Ink

Robert Oster Red Orange Ink

Robert Oster Red Orange Ink has a nice dark orange color, with a red tinge or highlights. This fountain pen ink is a slight deviation from Robert Oster Tangerine Ink with just a tad more red infused into the color. Many may view these two Robert Oster colors so similar that one of these two colors may not be needed. That of course is for the consumer to decide. Owning at least one of these two fabulous orange ink colors is recommended.

The dark orange shade of Robert Oster Red Orange shows up well on paper and has high saturation characteristics. The ink has a great dry time, better than their Tangerine ink. If you are looking for a true bright, vivid orange color, we would recommend another orange ink such as the Robert Oster Orange or Pelikan Edelstein Mandarin ink.

Please note the following traits we observed while reviewing Robert Oster Red Orange Ink that you may find helpful:

Testing Factors

For this review, we used a J. Herbin glass dip pen on French made Rhodia bloc paper. The dip pen has a tip that is equivalent to a fine point nib.

Bottle Sizes

Robert Oster Red Orange Ink comes in only one size, a non-descript clear 50 ml. plastic bottle. This Australian ink does not have a flashy bottle, but it doesn’t need it. The quality of the ink is why Robert Oster Signature inks are so popular. Each bottle comes with an ink blot on top of the white label, a wonderful way to identify the color of the ink inside.

Cost

Each bottle of Robert Oster Red Orange Ink retails for $16.00 in the USA. However, the price of this 50 ml. bottle will increase to $17.00 in June of 2017. This price point makes Robert Oster inks a mid range priced ink.

Dry Time

The dry time we experienced using Robert Oster Red Orange Ink was a lightning fast 1-3 seconds. Robert Oster Tangerine ink, which is very similar in color we experienced a 5-6 second dry time, using the same pen and paper.

Bleed Through

Robert Oster Red Orange Ink produced no bleeding at all, even during the cotton swab and water tests we conducted.

Feathering

We did not experience any feathering using Robert Oster Red Orange Ink, even during the water test, although there was color smearing. The lines stayed pretty true and crisp without a lot of feathering using Rhodia paper.

Water Test

When we ran a wet cotton swab over a Robert Oster Red Orange Ink sample we noticed some color smearing but the lines remained completely legible. Although not entirely waterproof, Robert Oster Red Orange Ink held up well during the water test.

Shading

Robert Oster Red Orange Ink did produce some nice shading from a dark orange red to a lighter orange color, This was especially noticeable using a cotton swab laying down more ink. With a wider nib you should experience some significant shading with this red orange ink.

Conclusion about the Robert Oster Red Orange Ink

In conclusion, for those looking for a dark orange ink, Robert Oster Red Orange Ink is a nice color with good characteristics. The ink held up well when wet, it has a super fast dry time, and there was no bleeding or feathering. For those with an artistic hand you will enjoy practicing with the various colors this ink will produce through shading. Happy Writing from down under.

This red/orange looks like a great match for my orange Diplomat Aero. From the pictures this looks like it shades to a darker orange and not toward red like the Monteverde Fireopal from about 4 weeks ago.
