Conklin Vintage Purple Ink Review & Giveaway

Check out a new purple ink just released in 2022 in today’s Conklin Vintage Purple ink review! That’s right, there’s a whole collection of NEW Vintage inks. An idea that’s extremely popular in our culture (from vintage clothing to vintage cars), we think Conklin’s really hit on something with their 2022 ink collection release, the Conklin Vintage Ink Series.

All About the Ink Maker: Conklin

Conklin was established back in 1898. In their early days, they made a lot of innovative designs and their pens were popular for both collectors and everyday writers. In fact, Mark Twain is known to be one of Conklin Pen Company’s earliest (unofficial) endorsers; thus the release of the Conklin Crescent Filler Pen. Today, Conklin continues their tradition of pen-making and creates high quality writing instruments worthy of the Conklin name. In 2022, Conklin released an ink collection.

All About This Week’s Ink Series: Conklin Vintage Ink Series

Conklin Vintage ink series is a collection of vintage inspired inks, with vintage bottles, packaging and even what many would consider to be vintage colors. The inks are made in the EU, but designed and packaged in America. The Conklin Vintage ink series currently includes:
  • Antique Turquoise
  • Bright Red
  • Classic Black
  • Dark Rust
  • Deep Blue
  • Rich Mahogany
  • Vintage Purple and
  • Kelly Green
Conklin Vintage inks lubricate as they flow through the nib feeding system, protecting the pen’s feed against clogging and corrosion. Conklin Vintage inks are also known for smooth ink flow, increased cap-off time, and medium to high saturations.

Ink Review Testing Factors (to keep things scientific):

As usual, we used a french-made  J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen (with a tip comparable to a medium-fine fountain pen nib) on Rhodia dot pad paper. If you use a different size nib or different paper or simply have a significantly different style of writing, you could see different results. But here’s how it went down for us during this week’s review.

What Sort of Ink Bottle Does Conklin Use for its Vintage Inks?

Conklin Vintage Purple ink comes in a vintage medicine style ink bottle with simple packaging, label and box. Each of the ink bottles comes with a vintage style, metal, medium mouth lid that is easy to open. It’s easy to identify the ink color because it’s clearly marked on both the bottle and the box.

How Much Do Inks in Conklin’s Vintage Collection Cost?

Conklin Vintage inks are very reasonably priced. We’d go so far as to categorize this new fountain pen ink as a very economically priced ink. Look for the current sale price at PenChalet.com.

How Did This Week’s Ink Fair in the 1-Dip Test?

We use the 1-dip test to see how far one dip can write on paper (dipping the pen into the ink only once). Conklin Vintage Purple ink very easily wrote across the paper on all three writing samples with lots of ink to spare. (Using only one dip per writing sample “S” “X” and scribble lines, see the image above).

How Fast Does Conklin Purple Dry?

During our ink review, Conklin Purple fountain pen ink showed a very fast dry time of approximately 2-3 seconds with high saturation. This purple ink can easily be a go to everyday ink.

Does This Week’s Fountain Pen Ink Bleed Through?

We saw some slight bleeding during normal use and a bit more bleeding during the heavy saturated cotton swab test. (Test was conducted on Rhodia paper).

Was There Any Feathering During the Vintage Purple Ink Review?

We saw no feathering during normal use, and almost no additional feathering during the water test.

How Does the Ink Stand Up to Water?

Conklin Vintage Purple ink is not meant to be waterproof, but it’s very close to being so. We know because even though it’s not waterproof, we put it to the test anyway. For the water test we let our ink sample dry for about 3 minutes before we run a wet cotton swab over the sample to observe the effect. Here are the results we saw during today’s review:
  • very light, almost non-existent color smearing
  • lines very legible
  • almost no additional distortion or line fading

Does Conklin Vintage Purple Ink Have Good Shading Traits?

Conklin Vintage Purple ink showed some possible shading traits with the use of the right nib and penmanship.

Final Conclusion on Conklin Vintage Purple Ink:

This week’s featured ink is a very economically priced ink recently released from Conklin Pens. (Conklin inks are made in the EU, and then designed and packaged in the USA). Conklin Vintage Purple ink is one of the 8 inks from the Conklin Vintage ink series released in early 2022. The 60ml bottle size helps keep the ink at a good value, and also supports the vintage look with a vintage medicine-style shape of the glass bottle. The packaging and labeling is simple and clear and also coincides with the overall vintage look and feel of this collection. The Vintage Purple ink is a nice, vintage, bright and vibrant purple color with some possible shading traits, and a very quick 2-3 second dry time. Enjoy this great everyday ink. Happy writing from Yesterday!
