Are you a fan of Robert Oster inks? If so, you’ll love today’s review. We’re bringing you the Pen Chalet Exclusive Robert Oster Scorpion Ink review. We love Robert Oster inks. We enjoy working with this popular ink maker so much that we partnered up with Rob Oster himself to create a growing collection of Arizona themed inks, and this week’s ink, Scorpion, is the latest release in the exclusive Robert Oster ink collection.
All About the Ink Maker: Robert OsterIf you’re not familiar, Robert Oster is a prolific Australian ink company whose inks are inspired by their home, Australia. (However, the partnership between Robert Oster and Pen Chalet HAS resulted in an ink collection reflecting a different region – the state of Arizona in the US that Pen Chalet calls home).
All About This Week’s Ink Series: Pen Chalet Exclusive Robert Oster Ink CollectionThis week’s ink is one of 7 inks currently available in the Robert Oster Pen Chalet Exclusive ink series. The ink series currently includes:
- Antelope Canyon
- Sedona Red
- Monsoon Sky
- Saguaro Green
- Monsoon Clouds
- Havasu Falls
All About This Week’s Chosen Ink: Robert Oster Scorpion InkRobert Oster Scorpion ink is the latest release in the Pen Chalet Exclusive Rober Oster ink series featuring ink colors inspired by Arizona. If you aren’t familiar with Arizona, throughout the spring, summer and early fall, scorpions come out at night. Under the beam of a florescent light scorpions glow, but normally they’re a yellow, golden-brown (somewhat translucent) color. Coming across a scorpion unexpectedly can be terrifying, but most experienced Arizonans accept them as just another part of the beautiful Arizona landscape; long-time residents may even develop an appreciation and find seeing one exciting…as long as they’re doing so from a safe distance. To reflect this particular aspect of the Arizona landscape, Robert Oster Scorpion ink is a beautiful light, golden brown color; reminiscent of an Arizona Bark Scorpion. (Yes, there are a number of different types of scorpion out there in the world, but we’ll save that discussion for another day). ***Wondering where to find the giveaway for the inks in our weekly ink reviews? It’s Time: Robert Oster Scorpion Ink ReviewOur ink review results should give you a better idea of just what you could expect if you decided to add this exclusive Robert Oster ink to your collection.
Ink Review Testing Factors (to keep things scientific):As usual, we used a J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen (with a tip comparable to a medium-fine fountain pen nib) on Rhodia dot pad paper. (Remember as you read this review that different papers or different nib sizes may produce different results!)
What Sort of Ink Bottle Does Robert Oster Use for the Pen Chalet Exclusive Inks?Robert Oster Scorpion ink comes in Robert Oster’s standard 50ml PET environmentally friendly plastic ink bottle with a leak proof cap. Each Robert Oster bottle is identical with a simple white label printed with a representation of the ink color and text indicating this is a PenChalet.com exclusive on the cap. Robert Oster does not have any additional packaging which keeps the costs of the ink down.
How Much Do Inks in Pen Chalet’s Exclusive Robert Oster Ink Collection Cost?Pen Chalet Exclusive Robert Oster inks are very reasonably priced for a 50ml quantity. Look for the current sale price at PenChalet.com.
How Did This Week’s Ink Fair in the 1-Dip Test?We use the 1-dip test to see how far one dip can write on paper (dipping the pen into the ink only once). Scorpion ink very easily wrote across the paper on all three writing samples with lots of ink to spare. (Using only one dip per writing sample “S” “X” and scribble lines, see the image above).
How Fast Does Robert Oster Scorpion Ink Dry?During our ink review, Pen Chalet Exclusive Robert Oster Scorpion ink showed a dry time of approximately 6-7 seconds with medium saturation, which is a very reasonable dry time, and acceptable for an everyday ink.
Does This Week’s Fountain Pen Ink Bleed Through? We saw no bleeding during normal use on Rhodia dot pad paper. However, there was a slight amount of bleeding during the heavy saturated cotton swab test (but only at the wettest points).
Was There Any Feathering During the Scorpion Ink Review? We saw no feathering during normal use, and just some very slight feathering during the water test.
How Does the Ink Stand Up to Water?Robert Oster Scorpion ink is not meant to be waterproof, but we put it to the test anyway. For the water test we let our ink sample dry for about 3 minutes before we run a wet cotton swab over the sample to observe the effect. Here are the results we saw during today’s review:
- Very light color smearing
- Lines still very legible
- Almost no distortion or line fading
