About the Kaweco Brass Sport

The Kaweco Brass Sport fountain pen is turned from first class brass and weighs 44 grams making it the heaviest Kaweco pen. The cap and barrel of the pen are made in a complex manufacturing process to create this stunning piece of German engineering.

The Kaweco Brass Sport fountain pen is the same design as the other Kaweco sport fountain pens with the over size cap and short barrel. The design makes the pen compact when closed and the cap extends the length of the pen when posted. This is a great every day carry pocket fountain pen.

This pocket fountain pen is made of solid brass and comes with a stainless steel nib and an iridium tip. The fountain pen is a cartridge pen. Add a Kaweco squeeze converter and a clip to customize this great pen.

Fast free shipping. Discount. The xf Kaweco is excellent with a dry ink like Pelikan on cheap USA made paper at work.

This is a heavy version of the Classic. The grip section is somewhat larger than the plastic Classic allowing nib replacement of nibs with three-piece 060 Bock nibs, rather than the 2-piece method of the plastic. The tendency of the Classics is that they have wet nibs, which suits me. They also are smooth nibs needing no correction. The Brass is slippery which should improve with time. This is a small pen and needs posting to fit the male hand.

I recommend buying an inexpensive version of this pen in order to see if you are willing to put up with the unacceptable low amount of ink and the poor quality installation of the nib by the manufacturer. I consider this pen a novelty not a serious instrument for writing.

A pen body that has been unchanged since the 1930s? Check

A raw brass body that shows a lovely patina as you handle it over time? Check

A durable steel nib and solid metal body for everyday beater use? Check

I've long been a fan of the Kaweco design, often reminding me of the wonderfully inspiring Art Deco designs of the past. But the light plastic bodies of the normal Kaweco sport always were too light for my tastes--I've never been one for inexpensive fountain pens. But therein is my main problem with nice pens. I'm a school teacher which means plenty of writing, but in an environment where luxury pens are impractical and can easily find their way into being dinged up and destroyed. I tried looking for a pen that was in the middle. A Parker Sonnet with gold nib was nice, but too flashy. The Pilot Vanishing Point was excellent but still fragile (having broken feed while dropping the pen). Finally a solid pen that actually looks better the more it's beaten and worn.

Now I will say that this pen does not write like many in the same price bracket. For this Kaweco you're certainly paying for the body not the nib. Unfortunately for some the pen still features the same Kaweco nib found on their $25 sport, which means that you're still stuck with a steel nib that is stiff and often suffers from "baby's bottom." While it can be replaced with a gold nib, it's underwhelming for the price. However, this curse can also be a blessing. For a daily beater pen to put through hell, it means very inexpensive feed/nib replacements in the event of an accident ($12-15).

Overall in my short time with this pen, grading the end of the year papers, I've come to find it as a special pen that fits in my pocket every day. With a silver pocket clip (another seperate purchase), a 1.1 calligraphy nib, and a patina matching my own finger grip--this pen has become me own creation.

One last thought: it will make your hands smell like brass.

PenChalet were very fast with postage and communication, had more nib options for this pen than other sites, and reasonable price.

The pen didn't receive a perfect score, and this reflects on KAWECO, not PenChalet, who provided excellent service.

For why it is the pen ought to be cheaper, and my nib wrote very dry and needed tweaking- I've never bought a KAWECO pen that didn't.

Thank you very much PenChalet:)

This is the Kaweco Brass Sport Fountain Pen. The pen comes in a small tin box. It has the Kaweco logo on the top of the box lid with Germany since 1883, also another Kaweco logo here at the bottom of the box. These emblems are actually raised off of the box, you can kind of see it with the pen there, so they are not just permanent they're actually stamped into the top of the box lid.

The interior of the box has a nice compartment, you can hold two separate pens or one pen like we have here, if you turn it that way you can put two pens side by side. It's just a molded compartment, soft velvet type of material to keep the pen protected, and then of course we have the Kaweco Brass Sport Fountain Pen.

The Kaweco Sport pens are a great pocket pen or everyday carry pen. They're really compact and have a nice large cap for the pen. That cap is threaded, it unscrews and you can post the cap which extends the pen and actually becomes longer with the cap posted than when the cap is closed. Without that cap posted, it's a little bit short, because it's a smaller pen. So you kind of need the cap to be posted to use the pen. That's the way it's designed, it makes the pen extend and become longer.

You can see the cap design. It also has these flat edges which are great because it keeps the pen from rolling off the table. The cap has the Kaweco Brass Sport Germany printed on the cap. On the top of the cap in a silver color is the Kaweco logo, a little medallion on the top, and it has a matching section that is the brass material as well, and it has a stainless steel nib.

You can see the Kaweco logo on the nib, and you can see the feed on the backside. You can see the Kaweco logo printed on the feed as well. This is a cartridge style fountain pen, so to change the ink on the pen you unscrew that section from the barrel of the pen and included with each one of the Kaweco Brass Sport Fountain pens is a standard universal ink cartridge.

You can also purchase a converter for this pen, the Kaweco squeeze converter fits the pen. A lot of the converters are too long to fit within the barrel of the pen because it's shorter so you have to use a smaller converter. One of the disadvantages of the pen is you either have ink cartridges or a small converter.

Also with this pen you can buy a clip for the pen if you want to clip the Kaweco Sport pens have a clip that simply slide on the cap, it's an additional option. Just a few dollars for that. Great pen, works really well. I really like the way this pen writes, and I like the compact design. Great pocket pen. Get your Kaweco Brass Sport Fountain pen at PenChalet.com!
