Read the Wearingeul Frankenstein ink review and find out why this is an obvious top choice as a Halloween ink that has our love all year long.
The Brand: Who Made Frankenstein Ink?
Before we actually dive into this week’s ink review, let’s talk about the maker of Frankenstein ink, Wearingeul. We added Wearingeul inks to our inventory at the start os 2022, and they immediately became the talk of pen and ink town. This Korean ink brand is known for offering unique color palettes while drawing inspiration from famous literature, timeless masterpieces, beloved fairy tales, and legendary myths.
This week, we’re showcasing the Wearingeul Frankenstein ink!
The Ink Series: World Literature Collection
Wearingeul Frankenstein ink is one of many fountain pen inks in their World Literature Ink Collection. I originally planned to own one of ALL the inks in this collection because I love to collect inks, and I also adore books! However, this collection has grown by LEAPS and BOUNDS since we added the brand to inventory, and I’ve fallen behind. Frankenstein, however, is definitely on my ink shelf.
At last count (as of October 9, 2024), there were 34 inks in the Wearingeul World Literature ink collection. So, you know it’s really saying something when I admit that Wearingeul Frankenstein ink is one of my favorite inks in this ink series.
Today’s Ink: Wearingeul Frankenstein Ink
This week’s ink, Frankenstein, embodies the essence of Viktor Frankenstein’s creature, reflecting both its chaotic exterior and the emotional turbulence within with a hauntingly murky green that dominates, a vivid purple that shimmers, and a rust-colored copper sheen that sneaks up on you (but only at really high saturation). It can easily be described as complex and definitely mysterious.

The Review: Wearingeul Frankenstein Ink Review
Check out all the ink review test results in the image below or read on to get a summary of how things went down as we put this multi-faceted fountain pen ink through our standard ink review tests.
What’s the Ink Bottle Like?
The Wearingeul Frankenstein Ink comes in a distinctive 30ml glass bottle, and I give it top scores for both form and function. The square, compact bottle embraces simplicity and elegance; it’s the perfect match for the dark, mysterious nature of the Frankenstein ink it contains. The wide bottle opening ensures easy, mess-free filling (whether you’re using your favorite flex nib, a daily writer, or a dip pen). Stability is key, and the well-crafted base makes sure the bottle stays secure during use. The label features the ink name, brand, and bottle size. The exterior packaging of the white minimalist, square-shaped cardboard box echoes the same simple but elegant aesthetic and clearly identifies all the essential information about the ink.
How Did This Week’s Ink Fair in the 1-Dip Test?
We did a 1-Dip Test with Frankenstein ink, and the ink was able to write all three lines on paper with plenty of ink left over on the dip pen.
Frankenstein Ink Review: What’s the Dry Time?
During our review, we tested the ink to see how quickly it dried, and we saw a dry time of approximately 10 seconds.
Did Frankenstein Ink Bleed Through?
We saw no bleeding during our review. (It’s important to note that we were using Rhodia paper here; you could see different results if you use a low-quality paper).
Was There Any Feathering with Wearingeul Frankenstein Ink?
We made sure to keep an eye out for any feathering during the ink review, and we didn’t notice any (again – on Rhodia paper). Frankenstein continues to get top scores for performance.
How Does the Ink Respond to Water?
We also put Wearingeul’s Frankenstein ink through our typical water test (even though it doesn’t claim to be waterproof). For the water test, we put down a writing sample, let it dry for a minute, and then ran a wet cotton swab over the writing to see how the ink responded to water. Here’s what we saw:
- Significant running of ink
- Visible line distortion
- Feathering
- No bleed through
- Some lines disappeared entirely due to ink running
So, we can officially provide a PSA: Wearingeul’s Frankenstein ink does not hold up well to water. Since it doesn’t hold up well to water, you may want to consider not using it for any special projects that could end up exposed to moisture.
Does Wearingeul Frankenstein Ink Have Any Shading Traits?
During our Wearingeul Frankenstein ink review, we saw a deep hue of purple that can look almost black with multiple cotton swab passes.
Does Frankenstein Have Shimmering or Sheen Properties?
Wearingeul Frankenstein ink also has a green shimmer to it; we’ve seen it described as having a “rust-like copper sheen,” but during our ink review, we saw a green sheen leaning towards turquoise/aqua.
Final Conclusion: Wearingeul Frankenstein Ink Review
After getting a bit closer to Frankenstein this week, we support our earlier conclusion that Wearingeul Frankenstein ink is a unique world-lit theme ink perfect for Fall and Halloween in particular. The fountain pen ink fits its namesake perfectly with purple and green shimmer. While it does not hold up well when exposed to water, the deep hue of purple makes it clearly visible in writing, and the dry time is quick for such a heavy shimmering + sheening ink. We’ll be keeping Frankenstein around through Fall and Halloween (and likely for all the other days of the year, too). What ink should we feature next?

This ink is my planner pick for October and I’m really enjoying it! I don’t see the sheen but I love the green shimmer.
Perfect October planner ink – and that coppery sheen is definitely only seen on rare occasions with this ink. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in writing – only in larger swatches.
I scored a sample of this yesterday at my local pen club’s belated Pelikan Hub party (along with a bunch of other samples!) I started swatching them this morning and I have to say that Wearingeul Frankenstein is by far my favorite! The depth of color, the complexity of interaction between the base purple, the sheen and the shimmer are absolutely stunning!
I’m so glad you agree that this ink is a stunner. I like Wearingeul inks a lot, but this is one of my favorite Wearingeuls.
Absolutely gorgeous color combination! I’m guessing that my best bet for anything with shimmer or other metallic particles is either a glass dip or Pilot Parallels? So far all of the pens I’ve used this kind of ink with have clogged. What do you think?
I like using my shimmer inks in a BB nib, stub nib, broad nib or a dip pen. I haven’t tried it in the Pilot Parallel personally, but now I really want to. That sounds utterly divine. The Brause ornament nibs combined with the standard dip pen nib holder are tons of fun with shimmer inks, too. I DO have reviewers who swear that they often use their shimmering inks with medium size nib fountain pens, but I try to learn more towards a broad at the very least. When you’re working with shimmer inks in fountain pens, it’s also… Read more »
Such a cool ink! I’d love to see some side-by-side comparison reviews with some similar inks in other collections, like Diamine Nightfall!
Ink comparisons are always a good idea. I’ll see what I can do!
