Ink Review Testing Factors (to keep things scientific):

ferris wheel press autumn in auburn ink review with always right notebook and after hours roundabout rollerball pen
Other items used during this Autumn in Auburn ink review included an Always Right notebook in Lady Rose, and a Ferris Wheel Press Roundabout Rollerball pen in After Hours.

As usual, we used a French-made J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen (with a tip comparable to a medium-fine fountain pen nib). But this week instead of the typical Rhodia paper used in most of our ink reviews, we used a Ferris Wheel Press Fether Notebook, the Always Right in Lady Rose. Here’s a complete list of other products used during this review:

  • Ferris Wheel Press Fether Notebook – Always Right in Lady Rose (dot grid)
  • Ferris Wheel Press Roundabout Rollerball pen in After Hours
  • Ferris Wheel Press Color Swatch Notebook
  • Ferris Wheel Press Autumn in Auburn ink (38ml)
  • J. Herbin Spiral glass dip pen

As always, we want to remind you that different papers or different nib sizes may produce different results!

Ferris Wheel Press ink fans love the packaging and that stunning jewelry-inspired ink bottle.

Ferris Wheel Press Autumn in Auburn ink comes in their 38ml unique jewelry-inspired heavy-weighted glass bottle. (Their outer packaging is completely gorgeous, and very professional – always! The Ferris Wheel Press products are heavily branded and themed – something about Ferris Wheel Press inks that their adoring fans love. The ink’s packaging also includes extra protection for the ink bottle inside the box. The bottle itself is display quality and collectible. Ink fans will also enjoy the easy to open, unique, and interesting brass lug nut cap with what Ferris Wheel Press describes as a secure locking mechanism to secure against any leaks. We’re also intrigued by the ability to set this 38ml ink bottle on its side (when capped, of course) and even stack it with other Ferris Wheel Press 38ml ink bottles.

Was There Any Feathering During the Ferris Wheel Press Autumn in Auburn Ink Review?

A quick writing sample with Autumn in Auburn ink on the Ferris Wheel Press Colorswatch card.

We saw no feathering during normal use, but we did see some very slight feathering during the water test (which is normal for any non-waterproof ink).

How Does the Ink Stand Up to Water?

Ferris Wheel Press Autumn in Auburn ink is not meant to be waterproof, but we like to put all our inks through a water test to see how well (or not) they withstand exposure to water. For the water test we let our ink sample dry for about 3 minutes before we run a wet cotton swab over the sample to observe the effect. Here are the results we saw during our Moonlit Jade ink review water test:

  • Light color smearing (typical for any non-waterproof ink)
  • Minimal distortion of the lines – remained very legible
  • Low feathering
  • This non-waterproof ink held up quite well to the water test.

Does Ferris Wheel Press Autumn in Auburn Ink Have Good Shading / Sheening Traits?

This particular Ferris Wheel Press ink didn’t show a sheen or shimmer, but we saw very good shading possibilities with Autumn in Auburn ink (depending on the pen, nib, and your penmanship). We’d call this ink a high shading ink.
