Our Guest Reviewer: Christine, Also Known as @From.Pens.With.Love

Christine really likes fountain pens + inks + excellent paper and notebooks…and cool leather products. Plus, she’s one of our regular guest reviewers, and in our experience, ya’ll love her take on the pens and inks, and papers you enjoy. You can find her on Instagram where she creates a wonderful story featuring many of the pens and inks and writing accessories you already love, and maybe a few you haven’t met yet!

About the Manufacturer: Nahvalur

Narwhal officially changed its name to Nahvalur on August 3rd, 2022. The brand debuted at the August 2019 DC Pen Show, since then they’ve made a place for themselves in the industry with a passion for creating the perfect fusion of art and writing instruments. Nahvalur takes craftsmanship to a higher level – from the self-made nibs (that are smooth provide perfect flow) to their popular (and very affordable) piston filler, there’s a lot about Nahvalur to love.

Let’s hear about the Nahvalur Nautilus fountain pen in Christin’s own words!

When this pen arrived I was pleasantly surprised by its size. Being my first Nahvalur, I didn’t know what to expect. It’s not heavy, but it is bigger than I thought it would be…and who doesn’t love a nice big-sized pen?! I know I do!

What is the Nahvalur Nautilus Fountain Pen Made Of?

The Nahvalur Nautilus pen is not meant to be heavy as it’s made from ebonite; a smooth ebonite. And although the color is black, it will look almost very dark greyish directly in the light. This ebonite material also helps me have a firm grip on the pen. It doesn’t feel slippery, my grip will stay in one place as I write without having to readjust the grip. It’s lovely!

Does the Nahvalur Nautilus Fountain Pen Post?

This pen is not meant for posting, and the cap will not fit if you try, but being a good-sized pen, there is absolutely no need to post it. The pen body holds a nice weight and balance in and off itself.

Nahvalur Nautilus Fountain Pen Review: How Does it Write?

The Nahvalur Nautilus fountain pen wrote perfectly right out of the box and it has kept a nice consistent flow throughout this journey and in between cleanings. No hard or slow starts, and it doesn’t dry up when being put aside for a few days. It’s a very forgiving pen if you forget it for a bit.

Let’s Talk Nibs: Nahvalur Nautilus Fountain Pen Review:

It got a smooth # 6 nib. Very smooth. Mine is a Fine as the nibs tend to lean a size up, so this writes more like a Medium, and it’s also more on the wet side. However, it’s a wetness that’s easy to control on smooth paper. Writing with the Nahvalur Nautilus fountain pen is an absolute pleasure.

Pen Design Highlights: Nahvalur Nautlius Fountain Pen

One of Christine’s favorite elements of the Nautilus design was the set of 3 ink windows. // Photo & Review Credit: @from.pens.with.love

Bonus points to Nahvalur for the ink windows. Yes, plural. It’s adorable. Because this is a piston filler that holds a good amount of ink, it keeps my anxiety level down, not having to worry that I will run out of ink. You all know what I mean. It just makes our lives easier.

Thank you so much to Pen Chalet for sending this over to try and review. It’s been a pleasure.

The Nahvalur Nautilus Fountain Pen: Conclusions

We love that Christine loved the Nahvalur Nautilus! In conclusion, she pointed out that this particular fountain pen is a lovely, oversized, ebonite, piston-filling fountain pen that doesn’t post but that has a great balance in the hand and is comfortable to grip. She found writing with the #6 stainless steel fine nib an “absolute pleasure,” and loved that the fantastic 3-ink window design allows you to see the level of your ink. I agree. This has become my favorite. This pen is so smooth, never dragged or scratched and flows continuously never skipping. This is #1 for me.
