All About This Week’s Chosen Ink: Exclusive Robert Oster Havasu Falls Ink Review

The Exclusive Robert Oster Havasu Falls ink is a beautiful dark turquoise blue shade of ink (not too light) that is reminiscent of the beauty of the waters of Havasu Falls located in the Grand Canyon. Havasu Falls ink shows up well on paper and has some great characteristics.

If you aren’t very familiar with the Great State of Arizona, Havasu Falls is a must experience destination at the bottom of the Western edge of the Grand Canyon that is only accessible by hiking down into the canyon or by helicopter. People are drawn from all over the world to visit this surreal spot where you can see majestic waterfalls gathering into crystal clear turquoise blue pools of water. What makes Havasu Falls even more unique is that it’s located in the middle of the Arizona desert.

It’s Time: Exclusive Robert Oster Havasu Falls Ink Review

Ink Review Testing Factors (to keep things scientific):

As usual, we used a French-made J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen (with a tip comparable to a medium-fine fountain pen nib) on French-made Rhodia dot pad paper. As always, we want to remind you that different papers or different nib sizes may produce different results!

What Sort of Ink Bottle Does Robert Oster Use?

The Pen Chalet Exclusive Robert Oster inks come in Robert Oster’s standard PET environmentally friendly plastic 50 ml. bottle with a leak proof cap. Each bottle is identical with the traditional Robert Oster gold label on the side of the bottle and a simple white label printed for the cap showing the color (Havasu Falls), and text reading “Pen Chalet.com Exclusive.” There is no additional packaging, which keeps the ink’s costs down and avoids unnecessary waste.

How Much Do Pen Chalet Exclusive Robert Oster Inks Cost?

Pen Chalet Exclusive Robert Oster fountain pen inks are available at a very reasonable, mid-range price for the 50ml quantity. Look for the best prices at PenChalet.com.

How Did This Week’s Ink Fair in the 1-Dip Test?

We use the 1-dip test to see how far one dip can write on paper (dipping the pen into the ink only once). During our Havasu Falls ink review, the ink was able to write across the paper very easily on all three writing samples with lots of ink to spare. (Using only one dip per writing sample “S” “X” and scribble lines, see the image above).

How Fast Does the Exclusive Havasu Falls Ink Dry?

During our ink review, Robert Oster Havasu Falls fountain pen ink showed a dry time of approximately 4-5 seconds with medium saturation. With this very quick dry time, Havasu Falls would make a great everyday ink choice.

Does This Week’s Fountain Pen Ink Bleed Through?

We saw absolutely no bleeding during normal use on Rhodia dot pad paper. However, we did see some slight bleeding during the cotton swab test (but only at the wettest points).

Was There Any Feathering During the Exclusive Robert Oster Havasu Falls Ink Review?

We saw no feathering during normal use, but we did see some slight feathering during the water test, which is expected with a non-waterproof ink.

How Does the Ink Stand Up to Water?

Robert Oster Havasu Falls ink is not waterproof, but we like to put all our inks through a water test to see how well (or not) they withstand exposure to water. For the water test we let our ink sample dry for about 3 minutes before we run a wet cotton swab over the sample to observe the effect. Here are the results we saw during our Havasu Falls ink review water test:

  • Significant color smearing
  • Lines still very legible; with some slight distortion and line fading

Does Robert Oster Havasu Falls Ink Have Good Shading Traits?

During the Havasu Falls ink review, we saw some possible shading traits with the right nib and penmanship. The ink showed from a deep dark sea turquoise blue to lighter shallow waters shades of turquoise.

Final Conclusion on Robert Oster Exclusive Havasu Falls Ink:

Robert Oster Pen Chalet Exclusive Havasu Falls ink is the latest addition to the Exclusive Special Edition collaboration ink series between Pen Chalet and Robert Oster. The inks in this collection are reasonably priced for the 50ml. bottle size. Made by Robert Oster, a well regarded, prolific Australian ink company, the inks have simple and effective packaging with no extra waste and clear labeling. Havasu Falls is a nice, dark turquoise blue color with a 4-5 second dry time making it a great choice for an everyday ink. We saw nice possible shading traits during our review, so writing enthusiasts looking for a vivid turquoise blue with good shading traits could turn to Havasu Falls ink. Happy writing from Down Under and Arizona!
