Fireside Snug Ink Review: The Test Results
We went ahead and put Diamine’s Fireside Snug fountain pen ink through our standard ink review tests, and we’ll run through them with you below.

Ink Review Testing Factors (to keep things scientific):
For this week’s ink review, we tested Diamine Fireside Snug ink using a French-made J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen (with a tip comparable to a medium-fine fountain pen nib) on Rhodia lined paper. Remember that using different papers or different nib sizes may produce different results!
Other Products You May See Us Use During the Diamine Fireside Snug Ink Review:

- J. Herbin Glass dip pen
- Rhodia lined paper

What Bottle & Packaging Does Diamine Fireside Snug Ink Use?

The Diamine Fireside Snug ink is a full-size version release of one of the inks originally released in Diamine’s inkvent calendar (the Purple Edition from 2023). The full size invent inks come in a very interesting “footed” glass 50ml ink bottle with a label reflecting the color of the ink with the name printed clearly. The bottles have a twist off cap and a medium size opening. The bottles are nice and heavy and great for display. The bottles are packaged in an “inkvent” style cardboard box reflecting the color Diamine used for their annual inkvent calendar. The boxes are also labeled to indicate the collection with a circular opening allowing you to view the color name sticker on the actual bottle clearly from the outside of the box.
How Did Fireside Snug Ink Fare in the 1-Dip Test?
During our 1-dip test, Fireside Snug ink was able to write all three lines on paper with plenty of ink left over on dip pen.
What’s the Dry Time for Fireside Snug Ink?

During our Diamine Fireside Snug ink review, the ink showed a dry time of about 7-10 seconds.
Did Fireside Snug ink Bleed Through?
During the ink review, we saw no ink bleed through (using Rhodia paper).
Did the Ink Show Any Feathering?
During our review, Fireside Snug didn’t show any feathering (again, we were using Rhodia paper).
How Does Diamine Fireside Snug Ink Respond to Water?
For the water test, we let an ink sample dry for about a minute before running a wet cotton swab over the sample. This week’s ink isn’t intended to be waterproof, and when we ran the test we proved that. Here’s how the ink responded to water exposure:
- Significant running of the ink
- No bleeding of ink through the paper
- Noticeable feathering
- Obvious line distortion
- Slight dimming of the ink color
Diamine Fireside Snug Ink Review: Any Shading Traits?
We did notice that the ink offers some shading potential giving off orange verring towards a burnt orange hue. The ink color is darker than standard orange, not vibrant, but more of a powerful dark orange. It shows up well when writing with ink using a glass dip pen.
Diamine Fireside Ink Review: Any Sheening or Shimmer Properties?
Diamine Fireside Snug offers a bit of shading, but that’s as far as it goes for special ink properties. There is no shimmer or sheen.
Final Conclusion: Diamine Fireside Snug Ink Review
