Robert Oster Green at Night Ink Bottle

Robert Oster Green at Night Review & Giveaway!

Located in Australia, the Robert Oster Ink Company is very prolific in their ink manufacturing. They produce a vast variety of colors that is hard to match. We are one of the few US retailers who attempts to carry every ink color made available by Robert Oster. We are able to do so because of our customers love of Robert Oster inks and their loyalty. Robert Oster’s trademark, “A Drink for your Pen” is their Australian way of telling you that your pen is thirsty, so keep the ink coming.

Robert Oster Green at Night ink is a very dark green color. Depending on your nib and use, the writing may look more black than green. Thus Robert Oster Green at Night ink maybe better described as a green-black color. It shows up very well on paper, has nice saturation and great other characteristics that we will discuss below.

Robert Oster Green at Night Ink review

During our review of Robert Oster Green at Night ink we found the following traits, which you may find useful:

Testing Factors

We used a glass dip pen made by J. Herbin on French made Rhodia dot pad paper for our review of Robert Oster Green at Night ink. The glass dip pen has a fine tip, that would be similar to a fine fountain pen nib.

Bottle Sizes

All regular Signature Robert Oster inks come in a standard, yet simple plastic 50 ml. ink bottle. Each bottle has a gold Robert Oster seal on the front with a white printed label and an ink color swatch on top. Most Robert Oster inks, including Green at Night ink do not come with any other packaging.

Cost

Robert Oster Green at Night is a mid ranged price ink, retailing in the United States for $17.00. This is a very reasonable price, considering you get 50 ml. of ink that is imported directly from Australia.

Dry Time

Robert Oster Green at Night ink produced a dry time of approximately 6-7 seconds, which is very reasonable and functional as a every day ink.

Bleed Through

Like most Robert Oster inks, we found no bleeding while testing Robert Oster Green at Night ink. However, due to the medium saturation and the dark color, there was some darkness on the back of the sample page where the ink was used, but no actual ink bleed through.

Feathering

We found no feathering during normal use while testing Robert Oster Green at Night ink. Even during the water test we found only slight feathering and that was only at the test’s wettest line.

Water Test

Robert Oster Green at Night ink is a water based ink and is not waterproof. However, other than some color smearing, which is to be expected with a dark non-water proof ink, it held up quite well. The lines remained distinct and very little feathering except at the test’s wettest points.

Shading

During our review of Robert Oster Green at Night ink we did not find much shading while using a glass dip pen. This was due to its straight line tendency and medium saturation. However, with the cotton swab test, we can tell there could be some significant shading when using a broader nib and penmanship. There is a lighter green with a thinner dryer line and an almost black shade the wetter the stroke and a bunch of variations in between.

Conclusion about the Robert Oster Green at Night Ink

Robert Oster Green at Night ink is a unique green in that it is so dark with a lighter green when a slightly lighter or dryer stroke was used. It has great dry time, can be used as an everyday ink color at the home or office. It will shade, has a very slight golden sheening trait, and is reasonably priced. Robert Oster inks in general flow well in all fountain pens and are environmentally friendly. Happy writing from Australia!

Lovely ink, very “Loch Ness”. I’d like you to review non-waterproof inks which might be suitable for artwork, too.

This is an interesting ink: there’s some black and there some green and they work well together. I’d like to see more Robert Oster inks compared with similar inks from other ink makers side-by-side.

I love blackish/colorish inks but don’t have a full bottle of any yet.
Love the names of Robert Oster inks. This one has such a cool sound, like it should be the name of a song or an album.
