Today we are going to take a look at the brand new Monteverde Monza Fountain Pen. Designed to look remarkable, but save your wallet, you might find the Monteverde Monza reminiscent of some of your favorite fountain pens. In this review, we are going to take a closer look at the Amber Monza with a Medium nib.
Continuing reading for a chance to win the Amber color Monteverde Monza Fountain Pen we used for this review.
Appearance
The Monteverde Monza Fountain Pen is available in four great colors. The Amber Monza is a pleasantly warm brown. Also, the barrel and the cap are both translucent to allow easy viewing of your ink levels, which is a definite perk. The clip and trim are both silver, which accents the Amber color quite nicely. Another benefit, is the clear feed that creates a magical effect of color that stretches up through the section and the feed.
Qualities
There are a few details that make the Monteverde Monza Fountain Pen more than your average $20 pen. First and foremost, is the fact that the Monteverde Monza comes with two O-rings. One in the nib and feed section, and the other just below the threads. It seems to be designed to enable a conversion to an eyedropper system. Although, the use of some silicone grease would likely ease this conversion. Another great quality, is the box that it comes in. There are people who throw away the packaging and only care about the pen. However, this pen comes in such a versatile box, that we would suggest any buyer to save it and reuse it. The box comes with foam inside slotted for the pen, two cartridges, and a converter. As it is made for an average sized pen, you could easily re-purpose this box for many of your personal favorites.
Performance
The big question, of course, is “How does it write?” Well, we opened one up and dipped it to find out. For this review we used Robert Oster Signature Blue Water Ice Ink. We have found Robert Oster Signature Inks to flow well, and behave nicely in most pens. Also, we used a Rhodia Dot Notepad, because they are known to perform well and produce smooth writing. The Monteverde Monza Fountain Pen fits nicely in the hand. It posts to a nice length, and is very lightweight. Anybody who prefers a light pen would love the feel of this pen. Upon first setting the nib to the paper, we experienced some slight scratchiness, but this was soon remedied by a slight tine realignment. Afterwards, the pen was gliding across the page and performed excellently.
Conclusion
With the high quality and low price tag, the Monteverde Monza Fountain Pen is quickly edging its way to the top as one of our favorite starter pens. Buy one now, and maybe another as a gift. You never know how much you need a fountain pen, until you have your first.

Lovely pen 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway, cheers!
I don’t know much about pens, past the fact I have a cup full of Bic pens that I use at work. But, I’m looking to learn more, so anything you review would be fantastic!
Omg! Sucha beautiful pen! I would love to win! I yet to own a fountain pen.
Lovely pen!
That is a really cool looking pen. Similar in design to the Sailor but it also looks link the Jinhao 992 with a different nib and feed. Pretty interesting.
Looks to be a great pen at an affordable price.
Any pictures of the box you mentioned?
Yes, the first picture of the pen in the box is the transparent box in the color of the pen.
I’d like to see a review of Monteverde’s Olivine ink.
Thanks for the opportunity to win the pen!
Oh I love olivine!
Sailor STORiA Magic Purple Ink is my current favorite. Would love to see a review.
Hmmmm. They look like demonstrators? Maybe do a side by side with Nemosine?
Looks like a nice starter pen. Monteverde is my go-to pen manufacturer for sure!
Great giveaway, thanks!
Beautiful pen that sounds like a nice work horse.
Looks like a nice pen at a great price. Thanks for a chance to win!
This pen has been on my wish list for a little while; thanks for the opportunity.
I’ve been eyeing these up. Thanks for the great review.
I would like to see a review of Monteverde Fireopal
I love the amber and the overall look of this demonstrator.
Thanks for giving this away, looks great
My favorite ink is Sailor Yama-dori
This pen looks like a Sailor Procolor (with a different nib unit, and with a rubber o-ring in place of the Procolor’s silver metal ring between the section and the barrel). I would love to have a Monza to compare to my Procolor, and an orange demonstrator would be very kewl. 😉
My favorite ink? Well, my current EDC ink is Pilot iroshizuku asa-gao, recently purchased from Pen Chalet in fact. 🙂
So is this just a rebranded 992 or what? Did they upgrade the nib? All the stock photos seem to have a jinhao nib with the logo blurred out.
Good to have another option in the affordable pen category.
One of my favorite inks, especially this time of year, is the Noodler’s Apache Sunset. This would look great in this pen.
I’m currently enjoying Cross Blue.
Not sure what ink I would use in an amber pen. Black or yellow, I imagine.
Dig the color – be interesting to see how close it is in proportion to a 1911 or 3776.
Nemosine Singularity would be a great one to review.
Beautiful pen!
I’d love to see more reviews on Robert Oster inks, especially comparison with other similarly colored inks. I like reviews that show writing samples as well as blotches. Fingers crossed I win this pen!
This looks awesome! I love Pilot Iroshikuzu and Diamine inks!
I know pretty much nothing about fountain pens – the only kind I use is Pilot Parallel, so whatever pen you review will be interesting to me. Something with a stub nib? That’s a nice looking pen, am surprised by its price and will probably buy one (if I don’t win it, tee he)!
I like J. Herbin inks.
Thats a nice looking pen
That really is a beautiful blue
Looks like a beautiful pen; I haven’t had a chance to use a Monteverde Monza yet although I look forward to having the opportunity to trying one out soon! In regards to inks…I love the rich royal purples, cobalt and peacock blues and greens but lately with fall on the horizon, I am craving beautiful gold’s and shimmery coppers, blazing oranges and warm reds…
My favorite everyday ink is Noodler’s Heart of Darkness.
I love Pilot Iroshizuku Kon-peki
My favourite ink is Diamine Grape. I have a soft spot for purple ink so anything purple coloured would make me happy! Thank you for the chance at the giveaway. God Bless & Love You Bunches!!!
Thanks for the thoughtful review of this very handsome, classically-designed pen. Especially nice is the mention of the clear feed. Look, no matter what you review next, I’ll read it. No favorites.
Beautiful pen!
Thanks you. Been wanting to try this pen
This is the colour I like the most too.
Would look great for a Fall demonstrator pen!
This looks like a fun pen to try out.
What a lovely pen!
I would like to see a review of Diamine Oxblood
Nice thorough review of a lovely pen! Of course I’d love to win it!!! I’d like to see a review of the Sailor 1911L Realo.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Jingao 992, is very cheap and easy to converter a eyedropper.
Review of Jinhao 992 with some premium ink.
Just recently purchased my first Monteverde pen and I love it. Would love to add to my collection!
