The week’s featured ink is from one of their most recently released ink collections, the FerriTales Down the Rabbit Hole Series.

All About The Ink Series: FerriTales Down the Rabbit Hole Collection

This week’s ink is from Ferris Wheel Press’s new collection released in Summer 2022, the FerriTales Down the Rabbit Hole ink collection. This collection introduced a new ink bottle from the popular Canadian pen, ink, and stationery maker, and so far the collection includes 5 different inks. The collection pulls inspiration from the classic stories of Alice going “down the rabbit hole” to Wonderland. As of August 2022, this ink series includes:

  • Tumbling Time Blue ink
  • Ruby Royal Flush ink
  • Green with Curiosity ink
  • Blushing Mushroom ink
  • Adventurine ink

Tumbling Time Blue, Ruby Royal Flush, and Green with Curiosity were the original 3 ink releases in the Down the Rabbit Hole ink collection followed Adventurine, and then Blushing Mushroom. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland and captured in the brand’s new 20ml miniature glass globe ink bottles, this collection of high quality, richly saturated fountain pen ink features a combination of enchanting shades, premium dazzling shimmers, and captivating sheens that bring whimsy to your projects and play tricks on your eyes.

All About This Week’s Feature: Ferris Wheel Press Adventurine Ink

This week we’ll be checking out the Ferris Wheel Press’s Adventurine ink. Adventurine is a light grey base ink color with an amazing rose-gold shimmer that may slightly pool causing a unique and beautiful combination. It’s a little difficult to describe, but it’s definitely an ink you may capture better with a broad or stub nib or brush/dip pen if you’re hoping to really enjoy the range of unique colors and shimmer it offers.

It’s Time: Ferris Wheel Press Adventurine Ink Review

For this Ferris Wheel Press Adventurine ink review, we put the new ink to the test to see how it performed with some of our standard ink testing materials and paper products. Read on for all the details (which we think you’re not going to want to miss).

Ink Review Testing Factors (to keep things scientific):

As usual, we used a French-made J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen (with a tip comparable to a medium-fine fountain pen nib) on Rhodia bloc pad paper. As always, we want to remind you that different papers or different nib sizes may produce different results!

What Sort of Ink Bottle Does Ferris Wheel Press Use?

Ferris Wheel Press introduced a new mini 20ml globe ink bottle with their FerriTales Down the Rabbit Hole ink collection, and it’s been very well received. As one of the colors released in the Down the Rabbit Hole collection, Adventurine comes in the 20ml heavy weighted glass ink bottle. The globe shaped ink bottle also has a unique lug nut cap that is easy to open, but also provides a very secure closure. The brand always has very professional outer packaging, and the ink also benefits from internal protection built into the inner box. You’ll find that the Ferris Wheel Press ink bottles are all display quality, no matter which size you get.

How Much Do Ferris Wheel Press Inks Cost?

Ferris Wheel Press Adventurine ink is in the 20ml ink bottle and we’d describe it as a mid-range priced ink. Look for the best prices at PenChalet.com.

How Did Adventurine Ink Perform in the 1-Dip Test?

We applied our standard one dip test to see how far Ferris Wheel Press Adventurine ink would write on paper (dipping the dip pen in ink only on time). Adventurine is a fairly light colored ink, and it wrote across the paper on all three writing samples (one dip per writing sample, S, X, and scribble lines). The ink’s shimmer was definitely heavier at the beginning, and showed much less towards the end of the line.

What was the Dry Time During the Adventurine Ink Review?

During our review, Ferris Wheel Press Adventurine ink showed a dry time of approximately 2-3 seconds with medium to high saturation, which is very quick for a shimmering ink. Adventurine is an ink you would likely use for a special project, journal or note.

Did Adventurine Show Any Bleed Through During the Ink Review?

We saw zero bleeding during normal use, and we only saw some very slight bleeding during the Cotton Swab Test (at the wettest points).

The rose gold shimmer is difficult to see in the image of the ink review test results, so here’s another angle that shows it a little bit better.

Was There Any Feathering with Adventurine Ink?

We saw no feathering during normal use and only very slight feathering during the water test (at the most saturated point).

How Does Adventurine Stand Up to Water?

Ferris Wheel Press Adventurine ink is not waterproof, but we always do a water test anyway. We like to see how inks withstand exposure to water, so we have an idea of how they’ll react. For the water test, we let our ink sample dry for about 3 minutes before we run a wet cotton swab over the sample to observe the effect. Here’s what we saw when we subjected Adventurine to our standard water test:

  • Very little color smearing
  • Lines very legible
  • Almost no distortion at all
  • Almost zero additional feathering

The ink held up very well to the water test and we’d call it “CLOSE” to being waterproof.

Does this Week’s Ink Show Good Shading and Shimmer Traits?

The Ferris Wheel Press Adventurine ink is considered a very “high shading” ink color, depending on your pen, your nib, and your writing style. The rose gold shimmer is a beautiful compliment to the light grey ink.

Final Conclusion on Ferris Wheel Press Adventurine Ink:

The Ferris Wheel Press Adventurine ink is a mid-range price ink from a new, but fun and interesting Canadian Stationery company. The very light grey ink color has a complementary rose gold shimmer. Part of the FerriTales Down the Rabbit Hole ink series, the Adventurine ink has fantastic packaging – very unique and interesting. The brand also introduced a new size and ink bottle with this collection that people seem to really love – the mini globe is a globe shaped 20ml glass display quality ink bottle. The Adventurine ink showed a quick dry time, and is recognized as a high performance ink safe for use with fountain pens. As a high saturation, shimmering/sheening ink, we recommend you periodically clean your fountain pen with a good pen flush to avoid unwanted clogging. Happy writing from down the rabbit hole!
