This Week’s Featured Ink: Apple Blossom

Apple Blossom is a vibrant red ink that leans toward hot pink, enhanced with a silver shimmer that is noticeable even in regular writing. Above you can see a swatch of the base ink color without the shimmer. The shimmer and color together create a dynamic and attention-grabbing ink that is perfect for fall or any time you want to add some pizzazz to your writing. Let’s see how it performed during our ink review tests. If you’re hoping to compare it to an ink you know, the closest I can think of is Diamine Electric Pink ink.

Dominant Industry Apple Blossom Ink Review: 1-Dip Test

Using the J. Herbin Glass Dip Pen, we were able to write three full lines on Rhodia paper with plenty of ink still left on the nib. Excellent performance!
How Fast Did Apple Blossom Ink Dry?

During our review Dominant Industry Apple Blossom ink showed a dry time of about 20 seconds.
How Did Apple Blossom Ink Respond to Water?
We put Apple Blossom fountain pen ink to our standard water test (even though we are fully aware this is not a water proof ink). We just think it’s a good idea to know how much it hates being exposed to moisture…or not. Here’s how it responded.

- Significant running of the ink
- Visible line distortion
- Fading of ink lines was prevalent
- Visible feathering of the ink visible
- Still no bleed through on the paper
All in all, Dominant Industry Apple Blossom ink doesn’t hold up well to water. Don’t journal in the rain with this one.
Did the Ink Bleed Through During the Review?

We saw no ink bleed through while we were using the Apple Blossom ink on Rhodia paper.
Was There Any Feathering During the Apple Blossom Ink Review?
We saw no feathering of the ink during the review either (still using Rhodia paper).
Apple Blossom Ink Review: Any Shading Properties?

Dominant Industry Apple Blossom ink showed some shading traits. It definitely leans towards a magenta rather than burgundy in everyday uses – I like that it writes in a deeper shade of magenta-pink than you may at first expect. It looked almost pink after the water test, but that’s a trait that would only show up in very specific applications.
Is this a Shimmering or Glistening Ink?

Dominant Industry Apple Blossom ink is definitely a shimmer ink; although Dominant Industry refers to the shimmer or glistening inks as Pearl inks. The silvery shimmer is very apparent during the cotton swab tests, but you can also see it during regular use.
Final Conclusion: Apple Blossom Ink Review

After working with today’s ink, I can say that it’s a lovely red-pink ink with plenty of shimmer. It’s packaged very well and comes in a high-quality ink bottle/bag. It doesn’t hold up well to water (but exposure to water does generate an interesting pinkish/magenta variation rather than the deep magenta-red pink you see in writing or swatching). During normal use, it’s a great everyday shimmery RED-pink ink that’s easy to use and easy to see on the page.

That color is gorgeous! I wish that we could experience the fragrance of the Dominant Industry Twilight Garden Scented Fountain Pen Inks in an online review! I didn’t know there were scented inks and now I’m obsessed with getting a bottle in Duftrausch!
Lucky me National handwriting day is coming up and I’ll have an excuse!
This color reminds me of one of my favorite apples, the Pink Lady (Cripps Pink). I love this color as much as I love the apple. And thank you for including a swatch of the base color without the shimmer in your review. Do you know if they will be adding this to Pen Chalet’s samples available for purchase? Or are they only making it available as a bottle? I put a bottle in my cart, but I would like to try a sample first.
