Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice Ink is one of last year’s new Shake ‘N’ Shimmy series of ink colors released. Robert Oster Ink Company continues to produce new and exciting color variations with well over 100 ink colors.
In addition to a large variety of regular inks, Robert Oster is also continuing to expand his Shake ‘N’ Shimmy line. Shimmering inks contain small flecks of metallic sparkle, usually either gold or silver. These inks continue to be very popular with pen lovers as they produce unique and interesting colorful writing simply. Shimmering inks are not for everyone; so if you have never used shimmering ink before, try one of our “sample” vials of a Robert Oster or other Shimmering ink such as J. Herbin’s 1670 series of inks before making a full bottle purchase. If shimmering inks are right up your alley, then Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink is a fantastic option. Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink is a light turquoise blue infused with silver sparkle that makes the words come alive and pop on paper. As with all Robert Oster inks, Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink is non-toxic and environmentally safe for fountain pen use. Many customers love to use shimmering inks with an art pen, calligraphy pen, dip pen or brush type pen in order to get the most consistent influx of shimmer throughout your letter or project.

During our review of Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink we found the following characteristics that you may find useful when choosing your next ink color:
Testing Factors
We used a J. Herbin glass dip pen for our review along with a cotton swab on Rhodia dot pad paper. Different pens and paper may produce different results.
Bottle Sizes
Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink comes in the standard Robert Oster environmentally friendly 50 ml. plastic bottle. There is no external packaging and it comes with only the bottle which comes with a small label on the lid reflecting the ink color and a small ink color swatch.
Cost
Silver Fire & Ice ink is part of the Shake ‘N’ Shimmy series with an MSRP of $25.00 but of course, we offer for less. This makes Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink a mid-ranged priced ink and in line with most other shimmering ink options.
Dry Time
During our review of Silver Fire & Ice, we found a dry time of about 6-7 seconds, which is quite reasonable.
Bleed Through
We found no bleeding during our review of Silver Fire & Ice ink using the dip pen and only a very slight amount during the cotton swab test at its most saturated point.
Feathering
During normal use, we found no feathering while testing Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink. Even during the water test we only found a slight amount of additional feathering.
Water Test
During our review of Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink, we ran a water test where we ran a wet cotton swab over a dried ink sample. Our test resulted in significant color smearing, but only a slight amount of feathering and line distortion. These results are typical for non-waterproof ink.
Shading, Sheening, and Shimmering
Silver Fire & Ice ink is part of Robert Oster’s Shake ‘N’ Shimmy ink series and thus intended to be shimmering ink. The shimmer is a silver sparkle that offsets the light blue turquoise color beautifully. Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink also has quite a bit of shading tendencies and color variation within the base blue color. Using the wet cotton swab, we noticed a slight amount of sheening, although this probably won’t show up during normal use.
Conclusion about Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink
In conclusion, Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink is a nice addition to the Shake ‘N’ Shimmy series. It is a wonderful blue color that is complemented beautifully by its silver shimmer. The price is more expensive than standard Robert Oster Signature ink but is in line with other shimmering ink brands. Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink has lots of shading characteristics and reasonable dry time. As with any high saturation, shimmering or sheening ink like Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink, we recommend that you periodically clean your pen using a pen solution such as Pen Chalet pen flush to avoid unwanted clogging. Happy Writing from Australia!
