Top Shimmering Inks

Pen Chalet’s Top Shimmer Inks!

Welcome back to another week of Pen Chalet’s Top Picks! This week, we’re bringing you Pen Chalet’s Top Shimmer Inks. We’re going to be talking about four different brands, and four completely different colors of shimmering inks. Continue reading below for your chance to win a bottle of one of our Top Shimmer Inks.

What is Shimmer?

So, before we delve into all things shimmer, we’d like to take a moment and explain what shimmer is. Shimmer is an effect in ink that is created by small micro particles of glitter that have been added to the ink. We advise the use of wider tipped nibs, and pens with good flow when using shimmer inks due to the glitter. We also suggest cleaning fountain pens frequently when using these inks. The small particles create a stunning look for the ink, that sometimes is confused with sheen. For a better definition of sheen and what that is, check out our review for our Top Sheening Inks.

Pen Chalet’s Top Shimmer Inks

First and foremost we have a brand new shimmer ink that’s flying off the shelves, the Organics Studio Amini Acid inks.  Alanine Aqua Shimmer is a beautiful light blue ink with bright blue shimmer. Also, as you can see, it has a red sheen as well. This is one of the first of many new shimmer inks that Organics Studio is going to be offering.

Second up we have Robert Oster Shake ‘N’ Shimmy Sparkling Cranberry. This deep red ink also has some light blue sparkle in it, which creates a beautiful contrast. Robert Oster has many other fantastic colors available in the Shake ‘N’ Shimmy line. If you are a fan of shimmer, you’ll definitely want to take a look at these.

Third in our lineup is Diamine Shimmertastic Golden Ivy. The Shimmertastic line is full of bright and fantastic colors. Golden Ivy is a rich green with gold shimmer that perfectly compliment each other.

Last, but certainly not least, is J. Herbin 1798 Amethyste de l ‘Oural. True to its name, Amethyste de l ‘Oural is a gorgeous rich purple. As well, you get the brilliant silver shimmer that sets a very regal tone to the ink. Not in our lineup, but also by J. Herbin are the J. Herbin 1670 Fountain Pen Inks.

Another cool giveaway. I will say I’m not a fan of shimmers in my fountain pens, but it’s great in dip pens.

Love the Diamine Golden Ivy. I’ve tried some but I think that that effect is done only on drops of ink not on real writing/sketch

I’m pretty sure that Organics Studio Alanine Aqua shimmer is going to be my next favorite when I manage to acquire it. In have a Pilot Vanishing Point Twilight Limited Edition that would pair so beautifully. I’ll probably want more than the medium nib I have on it currently.

Great review and information. I only have two in purchased through Massdrop: Diamine Inferno Orange and Golden Sands; the latter has not been used yet. Would you do a “Best 5” in countries by continent? That would be interesting.

After my experience with Walden Pond, I won’t ever go near an Organics Studio Ink again. But Diamine shimmertastic and J. Herbin shimmer inks are excellent. I love Emerald of Chivor, Shimmering Seas, and Golden Oasis.
