Pen Chalet would like to thank Bill Karas (owner of Karas Kustoms) and Dan Bishop (lead designer at Karas Kustoms) for taking the time out of their day to give us a complete tour of their pen manufacturing operation, located in Mesa, Arizona.

Karas Kustoms is a unique pen company, which was started by Bill Karas, who is a machinist by trade and has created a number of unique, high quality, machined, hand crafted products. Lead designer Dan Bishop came up with the idea to make pens, which has blossomed over the last few years into a highly successful portion of their business. To date Karas Kustoms has released 3 pen designs, each of which comes in many colors and materials, including brass and copper; (i) the Retrakt; (ii) the Render K; and the extremely popular (iii) the Bolt.

We were also able to see a prototype design of Karas Kustom’s latest pen to be released in the near future. All of Karas Custom are pens made in America and are machined and manufactured and assembled in the U.S.A. Each of the writing instruments made by Karas Kustoms are machined right in their shop from high quality stock metals. You will not find a more durable pen anywhere, it may be the last pen you ever have to buy. Their pens are made to last! Look for Pen Chalet to carry the Karas Kustoms brands in the future.

Karas Kustoms RETRAKT

RETRACKT

The Karas Kustoms RETRAKT is named because it is a “click” style pen. It uses a near silent mechanism that operates quietly and smoothly.  The RETRAKT comes in 3 different metals, aluminum, brass, and copper. As will all Karas Kustoms pens the aluminum will be anodized while the brass and copper will be left raw. The RETRAKT takes a Pilot G2 or Parker style refill.

The Karas Kustoms Render K is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, brass or copper. The Karas Kustoms Render K takes a Pilot Hi-Tec C refill or Parker compatible.

The Bolt

The Karas Kustoms Bolt is machined from aluminum, brass or copper parts. Name the Bolt due to the bolt action to extend and retract the refill in the pen. The Bolt takes a Pilot G2 or Parker style refill.
