Organics Studio Ink

Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink Review & Giveaway!

The Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink is named after Tyler’s Australian Shepherd “Oscar”. It is a beautiful coppery red color. The ink is more red in color than Diamine’s Ancient Copper Ink, which has more brown and orange hues. Oscar’s Copper Ink is part of Organics Studio’s Vintage Series of inks, which are designed to be easy to clean even if the ink is left in a pen for an extended period of time. The Vintage Series of inks were the first inks to be reintroduced when Tyler began production again. These were first on his list due to their previous popularity.

Organics Studio Ink Company began making ink in 2012. The creator of this unique brand of inks, Tyler, developed and handcrafted each ink exclusively in the United States. Studying biochemistry and organic chemistry at the University of Maryland, Tyler took a break from creating his popular ink brand to attend graduate school. Fast forward to 2016 and Organics Studio is back bigger and better than ever. We are proud to be one of the few retailers who are offering Organics Studio fountain pen inks to our loyal followers.

We hope that you will not only enjoy Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink, but also the Organics Studio brand and its wide variety of handcrafted fountain pen ink colors.

Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink

Please note the following characteristics we found while testing Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink during this review:

Testing Factors

We used Rhodia graph paper with a French made J. Herbin glass spiral dip pen for this review. The dip pen has a tip that is equivalent to a fine fountain pen nib.

Bottle Sizes

All Organics Studio fountain pen inks come in a simple 55 ml.clear plastic bottle with a wide plastic ribbed lid. Each bottle comes packaged in a simple craft cardboard colored box labeled with the Organics Studio logo and information about the ink inside.

Cost

The retail price for this handcrafted made in the USA ink is $16.00, but we are selling it for less. This makes this ink very reasonably priced for this American hand made ink.

Dry Time

Testing Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink we found a dry time of approximately 6-7 seconds, which is very reasonable for a medium saturated ink.

Bleed Through

We did not experience any bleeding using Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink with the glass dip pen and Rhodia bloc paper. Even during the cotton swab test, very slight bleeding was noticed and that was only during the most saturated points.

Feathering

During normal use, on Rhodia paper, we did not experience any feathering with Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink. It produced clear and distinct lines without any line distortion.

Water Test

During the water test we conducted by running a wet cotton swab over the dried Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink sample, we noticed significant color smearing. Other than the color smearing, there was slight feathering and line distortion, but only at the wettest parts of the test. The majority of the ink sample retained its clear lines. Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink is not waterproof ink, but still holds up pretty well.

Shading

Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink produces nice shading when used with the right fountain pen nib and paper. Dark reds to a lighter coppery red color variation, makes this ink shade quite beautifully.

Conclusion about the Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink

We are excited to carry Organics Studio and hope you will love these new American made handcrafted inks. Organics Studio Oscar’s Copper Ink has nice characteristics. The ink has a reasonable dry time, great shading possibilities and good saturation which allows it to show up well on paper. It has also been designed to be friendly to your fountain pen and is easy to clean. Our price of $12.80 for all Organics Studio inks makes this ink a good value as well.

That is a beautiful color. I have heard really good things about their inks and they are right by where I used to live!

Looks like a lot of color variation depending on the thickness of the line. More copper in a really fine pen, which i really like.

I’ve heard about Organic Studios, and your nice write-up makes me want to give it a try. And this is a very nice color having rather a vintage look about it…

Good-looking Sailor Oku-yama-ish color. Never tried Organics Studio inks, even though I’m here in Maryland where they’re headquartered.

It looks more red than I would imagine a copper but OS makes great inks and this one is no exception. Thanks!
