This Week’s Featured Ink: Monteverde Green Ink Review

Ink: Monteverde Green Fountain Pen Ink
Monteverde Green is not your typical green ink. While the name suggests something bright and botanical, this ink delivers a moody, almost black writing experience with the occasional deep emerald undertone. It’s a classic ink choice for those who want a green that leans dark, saturated, and bold.
Ink Test Results: Take a Peek at the Actual Review Tests

The image shows a full ink test, including a cotton swab ink swatch, a dry test (to see how fast Monteverde Green ink dries), 1-Dip test writing samples, a water test (to test it for resistance to water exposure), and a cotton swab test showing lines of cotton swab swatches with each line receiving an additional “swipe” with the cotton swab). Tests were conducted using a glass dip pen on Rhodia lined paper.
Ink Bottle and Packaging of the 30ml Monteverde Inks

Monteverde Green comes in a sturdy glass bottle with a solid black cap. The packaging is minimal—a clear plastic box that keeps the focus on the ink itself. One thoughtful touch: a printed swatch of the ink color is visible on the back of the bottle label, so you can preview the hue without opening it.
Other Items Used During the Monteverde Green Ink Review:
- Pen: J. Herbin Glass Dip Pen (medium nib-like flow)
- Paper: Rhodia Lined Paper (high-quality, fountain pen-friendly)
- Dee Charles Designs Pen Wipe Wallet
- Cotton swabs (Q-tip brand)
- water (from the tap)
The Standard 1-Dip Test with Monteverde Green:
Monteverde Green performed exceptionally well during the 1-Dip Test. With just one dip of the glass pen, we were able to write three full lines—and still had ink left over. This speaks to the ink’s generous flow and strong saturation.
Dry Time: How Fast Did Monteverde Green Ink Dry?

Dry time was approximately 10 seconds on Rhodia paper. This is fairly standard and allows for comfortable writing without much smearing or waiting.
How Did the Ink Do During the Water Test?

Monteverde Green does not withstand water well. During our water test, we saw:
- Fading throughout the sample
- Line distortion, especially in the first half of the test
- No bleedthrough on the back of the page
- The color itself didn’t run dramatically, but the lines lost their integrity significantly
Did Monteverde Green Ink Show Any Special Properties?
Monteverde Green is a deep, dark green that leans SO deep it could pass for black. Using the dip pen or a cotton swab, the ink appears nearly black, with just hints of green surfacing under bright light or heavier saturation. Some light shading was visible, but overall, this ink is quite uniform in tone.
Did the Ink Show Any Feathering or Bleeding?
- No feathering on Rhodia paper
- No bleedthrough was observed, even during the water test
Monteverde Green is very well-behaved on high-quality fountain pen-friendly papers like Rhodia or Clairefontaine.
Final Thoughts on Monteverde Green Ink:
If you’re looking for a dark, serious ink that subtly nods to green without shouting it, Monteverde Green is worth your attention. It writes dark and bold, dries quickly, and holds up beautifully on paper. However, it’s not waterproof, so keep that in mind if water resistance is a must for your projects. This ink is a great option for professionals or anyone who wants the richness of black with just a hint of something different.
