Hello, again! This week’s exciting review and giveaway is for the Kaweco AL Sport Fountain Pen. Kaweco started in Germany in the year 1889. That’s 129 years of pen manufacturing! Throughout the years they have consistently produced quality writing instruments.
Read on for a chance to win the Kaweco AL Sport Fountain Pen that we used in this review!
Appearance
The Kaweco AL Sport Fountain Pen is a pocket, or mini, sized pen. Although the AL Sport is clip-less, you don’t have to be afraid of it rolling away. The cap on the AL Sport is octagonal which allows it to stay exactly where you put it. Also, you can post the cap which extends the pen from four inches, to five and a quarter inches. If you never buy a pen without a clip, you can purchase a Kaweco Slide-on Clip as a add on. Also noteworthy are the many colors available, including a few stonewashed options.
Qualities
Arguably the best quality about the Kaweco AL Sport Fountain Pen is its compact size. The AL Sport can easily be an Every Day Carry, either in a pocket or in your favorite case. The AL-Sport rings up with a price of $80.00 or the stonewashed for $85.00, which is a bit higher than their plastic version of the pen, the Classic Sport. Although, the durability of this pen definitely outweighs the price tag. Kaweco, as a German brand, uses German-made nibs, that tend to write a little more broad than your typical Japanese brand.
Performance
Now, it’s time to get down to the meat of the matter. For this review, we used a Stonewashed Black Kaweco AL Sport Fountain Pen that was inked up with Diamine Earl Grey. This AL Sport wrote like a dream. It was smooth across the paper, and has really great ink flow. The AL Sport rested well in the hand, although it may be too small for those with larger hands. We do have to say that there is the rare occurrence where Kaweco nibs are not smooth out of the box. However, with just a small amount of tuning, even these rare accidents can be turned into dreams.
Conclusion
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a compact Every Day Carry, or just looking for a nice pen, we recommend you try the Kaweco AL Sport Fountain Pen. We’re sure that you’ll love their quality. I’m new to pens – my daughter is the one who is the artist – so anything you review is appreciated!
The pen seems interesting. I’ve mostly just seen the Sport Classic.
Thanks for the giveaway! What was the nib size in the writing sample?
It was a fine nib on the Kaweco AL Sport pen we reviewed.
I really enjoy black-blue or blue-black inks.
I would like to know which inks are best for fountain pen sketching. A review on any of them for that would be appreciated. Things such as quick drying, permanent, etc.
Love this review of the Kaweco! Great little pens! Please next compare the new Diamine Shimmers to the ones already out. Are the colours the same? Thank you for all the giveaways! God Bless & Love You Bunches!!!
Beautiful pen, looks classy. Agreeable that this would make a nice everyday carry. The is for the review
I’ve only just begun exploring inks, so anything is good 🙂
I’d like to see a review of the Pilot Stargazer.
I have heard good things about this pen, and would love a chance to win one. Thank you.
I love the sport pens. They’re perfect pocket pens and always reliable writers. I’d love to try the new earl grey ink!
I love using fountain pens!! They give me an opportunity to truly express myself! I love being able to add a flair to what I write!!! I love to read your reviews of the pens and the ink! This pen has the added beauty of being compact, making it easier to transport and use!
This is one pen that I could easily get carried away with!
Rober Oster Sublime

I’d love to see a review of Diamine Majestic Blue.
I’ve had my eye on an AL Sport for awhile but haven’t been able to decide on the color! So many options.
That is a nice looking pen

this kaweco looks fantastic. looks tough and rugged.
THANK YOU for using the new earl grey ink! definitely want to try it out~
Thanks for reviewing more pens!
As far as inks, I love reading all the reviews!
I love Kawecos. They’re the best pens for me. This Stonewashed black would be a great piece in my collection 😉 Thanks for the giveaway!
I am just starting to explore fountain pen inks, I could like to know more about waterproof and fast drying ink that can be used with other media like watercolor…
I have one of the Classics, but I’m interested in heavier, metal pens more. Thanks for the review!
Oooh another fun giveaway! I’ve always been interested in the Kaweko’s but never tried one.
I’ve heard good things about Kaweco pens, and the design is unlike any of the other pens in my collection. I am definitely interested in owning one in the future. This ink looks lovely too. I am not a fan of black inks or even a lot of blue inks (used them my whole life because they are the standard, and now I want more variety) so this color is a nice substitute. Professional but still a bit different than the norm.
I like that stonewashed look!
The Al Sports are lovely little pens.
A Kaweco is in my wish list for a while now, so thank you for that giveaway :p
This looks like a great pen! I don’t have any pens this small but I would love to win it!!!
My favorite every day carry is my Pilot Prera – the size is just right for me. The Kaweco AL sport piques my interest because it’s about the same size as my Prera when posted. Thanks for a good review, and a chance to win.
Favorite ink currently is Noodlers Apache sunset!
It’s gorgeous!
I love Kawecos. I’d love an al-sport of any kind 🙂
I still don’t try any pen of this brand but it should arrive soon….
I love German pens, although I’m moving more towards Japanese models for the finer nibs. Would love a review on sheening inks.
I’d like to see recommendations or comparisons for orange inks!
I’v Never owned a Kaweco before and this one seems like a good one to start with. I like the idea of it being small do I can carry it in my pocket. Thank you for the review.
Hello and thanks for the review. Looks like a great pocket pen.
I really like the look of Diamine Frosted Orchid, would love to see a review of that.
I’d like to see a Martemodena President reviewed and my fav ink is Diamine Poppy Red
Gorgeous pen!
At the moment my favourite ink is Iroshizuku yama-dori.
My favorite ink lately has been an old simple standby – Waterman Mysterious Blue. It behaves well and is safe for any pen, and it’s a great color too.
I am dying to try a Kaweco! It looks so beautiful and the compact size would be great for me, as I am often in the go.
I have a kaweco brass sport with a broad nib.
Worked perfect right out of the box.
Musta got lucky.
Love the pen.
Looks like a great pen!
I would love to see some reviews of smaller beans of ink. Duch as Papier Plume, KWZ, etc.
These seem to have my attention. Their presence is prevalent on social media
Please review Robert Oster Sublime!
