Robert Oster Aussie Gold Ink is one of close to 100 colors from the Robert Oster ink company. Robert Oster inks utilize the Australian color palette in their ink color naming and Aussie Gold ink is the first yellow/gold ink of theirs we have reviewed. Yellow fountain pen ink is a novelty in many regards as yellow in general is a difficult ink color to use in the office or other non-personal settings. However, yellow and gold ink is wonderful, bright and fun to use in letters, journals or other artistic projects. Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink in particular is a little darker than you may expect from typical yellow ink as it has a slight brown tint to the color. Additionally, Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink also contained a brown sheen during our review at the wettest points of our cotton swab test.

Testing Factors
For our review of Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink we used a J. Herbin glass dip pen on French made Rhodia dot pad paper. The glass dip pen has a tip that is similar to a fine fountain pen nib.
Bottle Sizes
Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink comes in a standard 50 ml. Robert Oster plastic ink bottle. Each environmentally friendly bottle is simple in its design with a small white label on top of the ribbed lid with the ink color and a color swatch sample on top.
Cost
Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink is imported directly from Australia and retails in the US for $17.00. At this mid range price, Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink is a good value considering it is imported.
Dry Time
We found a dry time of approximately 6-7 seconds while testing Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink. Robert Oster inks are known to have high saturation, which makes the 6-7 second dry time pretty reasonable. The high saturation of Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink makes this yellow ink legible on white paper, where some other yellow colored inks are not as noticeable.
Bleed Through
There was no bleeding during our review of Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink at all.
Feathering
During our review of Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink we found no feathering during normal use. During the water test we did find some slight feathering, but not much as compared to other non-waterproof ink colors.
Water Test
While reviewing Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink, our water test found that although there was significant color smear, the ink and lines remained legible without much feathering or distortion. This is typical for non-waterproof inks.
Shading
Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink actually produced some nice shading, even with the fine tip glass dip pen. We noticed the wetter lines produced shading from a dark brownish to a lighter golden yellow color. The brownish hue makes this ink unique and quite interesting to use.
Conclusion about the Robert Oster Aussie Gold Ink
Yellow is a must have color for all fountain pen lovers, but one that you may only use occasionally. However, if you own a bottle of Robert Oster Aussie Gold ink, you may find yourself using this golden color more than other typical yellow inks. The brown hue puts a slight dark tint on the ink, making it very legible for a yellow-gold ink. The dry time is great, the price reasonable and the name fantastic. A perfect ink for letters, journal or other types of artistic projects where a golden color is needed. Happy writing from Down Under!
