About ACME Studios
ACME Studios is known for its well-phrased slogan: “Luxury by Design.” The one of a kind brand run by Adrian Olabuenaga and his wife Lesley Bailey produces extraordinary modern and contemporary product designs.
ACME Studios started as a Los Angeles, California jewelry store in 1985 working with famous designers to produce unique, contemporary jewelry. The fledgling company quickly gained international recognition as one of the first companies in the world to work with all 14 designers, known as the “Memphis Designers,” to create its jewelry pieces.
In 1988 ACME Studios relocated to the island of Maui in Hawaii. Ettore Sottsass, a world-renowned architect and one of the original Memphis Designers, was also a good friend of Adrian and Lesley. He was the designer and builder behind “Casa Maui,” and the ACME Studios warehouse (among other projects on the island). On a recent trip to Maui this summer, Pen Chalet visited Casa Maui and the ACME Studio Warehouse where we enjoyed Lesley Bailey’s unmatched Hawaiian hospitality.
ACME Studios released its first collection of fine writing instruments in 1997 using the same modern and contemporary design that skyrocketed their jewelry business to international success. The rest, including having their jewelry and fine writing instruments displayed in various museums around the world as part of permanent collections, is history.
ACME Studios always includes renowned architects or designers in the design and creation process for their unique fine writing instruments. The company has a history of creating unique and collectible writing instruments meant to inspire while they educate the public in the world of modern and contemporary art and design. ACME Studios’ dedication to outstanding design means pen enthusiasts are never disappointed. You’ll find pens by Michael Graves, Barcelona’s Antoni Gaudi, America’s Frank Lloyd Wright and even a Beatles collection of pens by this extraordinary company.
Each of ACME Studio’s standard pens come in a variety of options such as fountain pen, using a medium or fine German-made Schmidt nib, rollerball, ballpoint or even a stylus tip. Each standard pen can also be easily interchanged between the various writing tips as well.
