We found the following traits while testing Kaweco Royal Blue ink that you may find helpful:
Testing Factors
We used a glass dip pen, made by French manufacturer J. Herbin on Rhodia Bloc paper. The dip pen has a tip that is similar to a fine nib fountain pen.
Bottle Sizes
Kaweco Royal Blue ink comes in one size, a 30 ml. glass ink bottle. The shape of the glass bottle is functional in its design. It can be placed on its side to obtain those last few drops of ink.
Cost
Kaweco Royal Blue ink is a mid range priced ink that retails for $16.00 for the small 30 ml. glass bottle. However, the vibrant color and quick dry time make this ink a good buy for this imported German ink.
Dry Time
Using Kaweco Royal Blue ink with a J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen, it had a dry time of 3-4 seconds. This is very quick, making this ink very viable as an everyday blue ink color for office and home use.
Bleed Through
We did not experience any bleeding using Kaweco Royal Blue ink with the dip pen or the cotton swab on Rhodia bloc N. 18 paper.
Feathering
During normal use we did not experience any feathering while using Kaweco Royal Blue ink. However, during the water test, we did notice some feathering at the wettest points of the test.
Water Test
Kaweco Royal Blue ink is not a waterproof ink. During the water test we experienced some color smearing and feathering. The smearing was not as pronounced as some other non-waterproof inks. The lines held up reasonably well, except at the wettest points of the water test.
Shading
Kaweco Royal Blue ink has a touch of purple to the royal blue color. When used with the right nib and hand it produces some nice shading characteristics. With the glass dip pen, however, most of the lines were consistent without much shading.
Conclusion about the Kaweco Royal Blue Ink
Kaweco Royal Blue ink is a good German imported blue ink color with a hint of purple. It has a very quick dry time, holds up pretty well under water for a non-waterproof ink. The ink also has nice saturation and is very legible on white paper. It is a mid range priced ink but the bottle is on the smaller side. This Kaweco fountain pen ink can be used as an everyday home or office ink. Happy Writing!

Crazy how much purple is in that ink. Looks great though.
Although I do not own any Kaweco inks, the one that intrigues me the most is orange. This blue is beautiful and I could use it every day.
Looks like such a nice summer blue. Thanks for the opportunity.

Ooh I like the look of this ink. Very bright and vibrant 🙂
Wow, I love the purple undertones. I also like the quick dry time, perfect for an everyday use ink. I’ve never tried a Kaweco ink before, though I’ve been considering buying one of their pens for ages.
