Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue Ink: Organics Studio, handmade inks from Maryland, has hit a home run with their Walden Pond Blue ink. Many people who have not heard of Organics Studio ink just a few months ago, have probably heard of it by now, especially if you love sheening ink. Tyler, Organics Studio’s owner and creator, has been overwhelmed with his ink’s success, but no more than with his two most popular colors, Nitrogen Royal Blue ink and his Walden Pond Blue ink.
Walden Pond Blue ink, part of Organics Studio’s Masters of Writing Series of inks is named after Henry David Thoreau. A man of many professions including an American author, Henry David Thoreau lived between 1817 and 1862. His most famous book is Walden, where he wrote about his simple minimalistic living experiences in Walden Pond, Massachusetts.
Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink is a dark teal blue color ink, with a fantastic amount of purple and dark pink sheen. Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink is the #1 sheening ink we have reviewed and it will sheen on almost every type of paper used. It will even sheen during normal everyday writing using any type of nib. For this review we used Rhodia paper which normally does not show much sheen. Even so we still experienced a tremendous amount in our review. On the other hand, if used with Tomoe River paper you will experience even more sheen and less of the dark teal color coming through. This ink is a medium to high-saturated ink and goes on very wet.

Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue Ink
We found the following traits while testing Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink that you may find helpful:
Testing Factors
We used Rhodia dot pad paper with a J. Herbin glass dip pen for this review. The dip pen has a tip that is equivalent to a fine fountain pen nib.
Bottle Sizes
Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink comes in a simple clear plastic 55 ml. bottle. The bottle and box are also very simple and typical for Organics Studio inks. The bottle’s labeling is so simple only one word is on the white label, “Walden”. The rest of the inks name, Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink and interesting information about Henry David Thoreau is on the box labeling, which has small lettering and can be tough to read.
Cost
Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink retails for $16.00, but is available at Pen Chalet for $12.80. This makes Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink a mid ranged priced ink. The characteristics of this ink make it an exceptional value at this price. The challenge, however, is finding anywhere that can keep this ink in stock as it sells out very fast.
Dry Time
Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink is a wet ink, with medium to high saturation. Being such, we experienced a fairly quick dry time of about 6 second using the J. Herbin glass dip pen on Rhodia paper.
Bleed Through
Amazingly, there was absolutely zero bleeding, even during the cotton swab test performed during this review.
Feathering
We noticed no feathering during normal use with Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink. However, during the water test, when the cotton swab was at its wettest, the sample ink lines did feather and dissipate.
Water Test
We conducted a water test with Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink, where we ran a wet cotton swab over an ink sample that dried for approximately 3 minutes. The wettest part of the water test, produced quite a bit of line distortion and feathering. Additionally, the entire ink sample during the water test produced a significant amount of color smearing. Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink is not a water proof ink.
Shading
If Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink produced any shading, its sheening characteristics significantly outweighs it to the point of being non-existent.
Conclusion about the Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue Ink
If you can find Organics Studio Walden Pond Blue ink, buy 1, 2 or even more bottles. You will not be disappointed. The sheening is easy to use and will show up during normal every day use and on most every paper available. The dry time is reasonably quick. There is no bleeding and the color is ultra unique and interesting. This ink would be perfect for any type of home use, letter writing, journals and even the office, as it writes dark. Be careful around water, as it does have a significant amount of light teal color smear when wet.
