Rhodia Notebooks and Memo Books

About Rhodia

Country: France

Rhodia was founded in 1932 by two brothers, Henri and Robert Verilhac. The Rhodia company was initially known as Papeteries Verilhac Freres but was later changed to Rhodia when they moved near Grenoble in the French Alps next to the Rhone River. Rhodia was then purchased in 1997 by Clairefontaine. The Rhodia logo was created in 1932 with two fir trees representing the two founding brothers.

The Rhodia notebooks and pads are loved by the people that use them. The notebooks come in the popular french orange or black covers made from card stock that is coated making them both flexible and waterproof. The notepads feature a hard stiff back cover making them portable and easy to write on. The pages are made from acid free paper that is ink friendly.

Pen Chalet is an Authorized Dealer of Rhodia notebooks and memo books.

Rhodia Reviews

Ice Top Staplebound
Rhodia Ice is a lovely departure from their standard Orange and Black notebooks with purplish-blue lines, graphs or dot grids. Instead, the Ice line sports an understated silver on white background cover and sedate gray lines or graphs on Rhodia's signature bright white paper that are very easy on the eyes. The size of this particular notepad, No. 12, is perfect for tossing into a small handbag, pencil case, car console, backpack front pocket, or even the back pocket of your favorite jeans for quick notes on the go. Like its larger cousins, it has the distinctive cover scored to make folding it back easy, a strong and stiff back cover so that you can write in your hand without the notebook losing its shape and a protective paper cover over the back cover. Plus, you get 80 sheets of Rhodia goodness, which lasts a very long time. The microperforation has pages tear out smoothly and cleanly, every single time as well. The price seems crazy for a small notepad, but given the quality of the paper and these beautiful small touches, it's actually a complete bargain. Well worth keeping a few of these on hand for quick notes and "Shoot, I forgot to pick up these things at the store" lists.

Most pen folks are probably quite familiar Rhodia papers, but just in case you've not yet used them, here goes. The paper is absolutely super for use with fountain pens; it is an extremely wide nib and very free-flowing ink that can get this paper to even show a bit of feathering/show through. It does cost more than your average tablet, but the quality is so far and above beyond any standard stuff from an office-supply store that I find it a worthwhile and pleasurable indulgence. It's a brighter white rather than cream colored like some comparable and excellent brands, is fairly easy to source (at least around me) and I am never without a pad or two around.
