Review of the Taccia Covenant Fountain Pen

Product Review of the Taccia Covenant Fountain Pens

I decided to Review the Taccia Covenant Fountain Pen because I was intrigued with the look and design of the pen and there isn't a lot out there about the pen. The Taccia Covenant has one of the most unique designs with it's elongated cap which is just shy of overall length of the pen and it is also longer than the barrel and section of the pen. This unique cap design gives the pen a slim barrel but with the cap posted it covers most of the barrel with only the section exposed making a much wider pen. Because the cap covers so much of the pen it only extends the length of the pen about an inch when it is posted.

Taccia Covenant Fountain Pen Review

The Taccia Covenant comes in three great colors, traditional jet black, a beautiful midnight breeze that has a gorgeous shimmering blue resin, and parchment swirl with brown and ivory colors. The fountain pen Taccia Covenant Fountain Pen Review nib is available in either fine, medium or broad nib sizes. The Taccia Covenant Fountain Pen comes with a two-tone stainless steel nib and has a converter included with the pen or the pen will accept a standard universal ink cartridge. The pen writes wet with some scratchiness but it is pleasant to write with. The nib on the pen has minimal flex and little line variation and performs well. Many customers ask if the pen has a lot of flex to the nib and I am not sure where that comes from but I didn't find that at all. Although I like the way the pen writes as I said earlier there is little flex and not much line variation with the pen.

When writing with the Taccia Covenant fountain pen I found I prefer to write without the cap posted. It did not feel too bulky but I felt there was a bit too much weight on the rear of the pen when the cap is posted. Also occasionally when I would remove the cap after writing I would end up unscrewing the section of the pen rather than the cap. I also felt the size and balance of the pen very good without the pen posted.

Taccia Covenant Fountain Pen Review Packaging

The Taccia Covenant fountain pen comes in a black leather box with a satin interior making it a great presentation. The Taccia logo is printed on the underside of the box lid and there is a small pocket as well.

Pros of the Taccia Covenant Fountain Pen
  • Well built quality construction. Worth the price.
  • Good Ink flow.

Cons of the Taccia Covenant Fountain Pen
  • Occasional issue when removing the cap the section unscrews instead when posted.

Taccia Covenant Fountain Pen Review Conclusion

The Taccia Covenant Fountain Pen is priced right at the top with other stainless steel nib pens and I feel that is about where it should be. The overall construction and performance of the pen are great. I really liked the look and design of the pen with its cigar shape and elongated cap. The Taccia Covenant Fountain Pen is one of the lesser known pens but definately worth taking a look at for your next pen purchase.

Taccia is a Japanese pen company with some very innovative designs including the Taccia Savanna fountain pen made from real buffalo horn.

The Perfect Pen-
I am gaining a great appreciation for Taccia nibs, beyond their beauty the feel and finish is very extremely pleasing to write with. The nib sparkles like a jewel.

I bought a Fine. It’s writes with smooth precision, ink of all sorts flows well., with a slight bit of beautful “fresh sharpened pencil” sensation (Zero scratch).

I appreciate being able to use sailor cartridges. I love the peacock blue and Yolonga. For work or travel a three pack of cartridges and my Taccia work flawlessly.

I have used this pen constantly for two months to write teeny tiny notes, and numbers.

I can’t imagine a time when I won’t want it inked.

The cap shelters the pen in its sheath Like a sword.

I love the security of this “pen in sheath” after my last experience.

Taccia on top of being secure has the most uniquely gorgeous resin.

You won’t say..” I’ve see this before” somewhere”.
The resin is complexly exquisite, thick and dense without being over weighted. The pen has perfect balance.

The grip section is comfortable and does not make my fingers go numb, on long writing sessions.

I’m infatuated.

Once I received the pen, I pulled the feed and nib out and washed them, to get any production residue off.

I got the Extra-Fine since that nib fits my motor skills in writing.

I filled the ink cartridge with Iroshizuku yama budo, the pen started with no hiccups. Even writing with the pen perpendicular to the paper ( I always write like this - fountain pens at a 90°angle ) I had no issues with the pens performance. I wrote with the pen unposted: the pen itself is a long pen but with a comfortable weight. I posted (screw on type) just to see how it felt...for me it became unwieldy and I wear Medium size gloves (as a reference).

The pen stands out just by it's long cap and the Persimmon Winds adds to its allure (lighter than the one shown, but an attractive reddish chestnut with black swirls).

It takes about 2.5-3 twists to uncap. To recap it needs a slight push in to get the threads connected, no major issue, just an observation.

Taccia makes a great product (this is my 3rd Taccia: Pinnacle and Spectre are my other 2) and this Covenant did not disappoint. I like the weight of their pens and the Sailor steel nibs cannot be beat.

Pen Chalet customer service was of great help setting me up and getting the pen out to me. True professionalism. I enjoyed our conversation too. Great people to do business with.

This Taccia Covenant SE parchment swirl is my new favorite pen; and I have a lot of them! The nib is actually fine enough for me, as I prefer an EF nib, the finer the better, and it writes very smoothly. I paired it with Monteverde Moonstone ink, and they are perfect together. I love it so much that I have just ordered another one, in the Ocean Whispers finish. As another reviewer mentioned, even though these pens are special order, Penchalet got it to me much sooner than I had anticipated.

Very unusual and beautiful pen - like the coloring; its like a smooth cup of coffee with cream! Posted it is very long and you really don’t need to post (and when you do post, the clip doesn’t line up with the nib - which may bother some). The pen makes a statement and folks are always asking about it. I like the new “SE” version of this pen as it closes well (with the purported adjustments made by them for this version to improve pen performance per their website). As always, Pen Chalet has great service and pen arrived promptly although it was a “special order”. Thanks PC team!

These Pens are the new “SE” models with an inner cap liner and new finish and trim combos. They write very well (steel nib) and of course a Sailor nib is perfection. I like the ability to write capped or uncapped. Any sized hand can be comfortable that way.

Superb nib, interesting body. I don't think anyone but a giant would want to use it posted, though.

My only Taccia. A truly original design, unlike anything else I've seen on the market lately. The nib is a #5 steel jowo nib, that is polished to perfection. It can become a bit unwieldy when posted. But is extremely comfortable unposted, even throughout a long writing session. A great pen at a killer price. And definitely something that would get the attention of even a "Non-pen person".

I got the Covenant because liked the construction; it caught my curiosity. I am happy with the pen and like its heft and feel. I would recommend it to my friends.
