Review of the Pelikan M640 Special Edition Mt. Everest Fountain Pen
Product Review of the Pelikan Mount Everest 640 Special Edition Fountain Pens
A few years ago, Pelikan introduced a number of Special Edition M640 pens, including the Polar Lights, Sahara, Eternal Ice and the Mt. Everest. I love these pens and they have become some of my favorite all time for their uniqueness, size, quality and overall appeal. The Pelikan M640 Mt. Everest Pen has not disappointed. It’s a full sized pen with a grey cap and silver and gold slightly bulbous barrel with intricate golden lines depicting the Himalaya Mountains with the golden peak of Mt. Everest, as it would appear on a clear sunny day with the suns reflection and glow. The end of the barrel goes back to the grey resin body, adorned with silver trim on the tip of the cap and clip, at the base of the pen and in three circular rings, the largest of which has the Pelikan name branded into it.

This pen tells a story, which makes it unique and interesting. I recently read Paths of Glory, by Jeffrey Archer, which tells the historic events surrounding George Mallory and his remarkable climb to the top of Mt. Everest back in 1924. The story culminates with his tragic death, being last seen a mere 600 feet from the top of Mt. Everest, and the decades of speculation of whether he ever made it to the top, ending with locating his frozen body 75 years later in 1999, triggered my interest in owning this pen.

Pros to the Pelikan M640 Mt. Everest Fountain Pen:
- Beautiful Pelikan two tone 18K gold Nib.
- Superior Ink flow.
- Very Unique themed barrel design.
- Size. Comfortable weigh and size, good balance.
- Pelikan Piston Fill system.
- Above-average Pelikan presentation box.
- Pen Chalet Price 50% discount.
Cons to the Pelikan M640 Mt. Everest Fountain Pen:
- Themed Design (although distinctive and unique, some feel this limits the daily use of pen).
- Piston Fill System, although pen enthusiasts love the Pelkian Piston Fill system, it doesn’t allow the use of cartridges, which may like for its convenience.
Final Thoughts on the Pelikan Mount Everest Fountain Pen Review
My Overall grade for the Pelikan M640 Mt. Everest Fountain Pen (grade 1-10, with ten being the highest, grading on value, ink flow, nib, presentation, options, uniqueness, interesting, and overall experience) is a sold 8. Any pen lover/collector would love the Pelikan M640 Mt. Everest Fountain Pen, although its unique design may prevent the pen from being an everyday pen for most, it makes a wonderful collection piece, fun to use and a unique and interesting discussion item. Make sure you look for a Pelikan M640 Mt. Everest Fountain Pen that is on sale, but get one while they last, as the remaining medium and broad nibs will be gone soon as well. All the other Special Edition Pens in this Pelkian Line (Polar Lights, Sahara, Eternal Ice) have completely sold out.Pen Chalet is currently offering the Pelikan M640 Mt. Everest Fountain Pen (in broad and medium 18K gold nibs) at a 50% discount off retail.

Pelikan Mount Everest 640 Special Edition Reviews from our Customers
See what our customers have to say about the Pelikan Mount Everest 640 Special Edition Fountain Pens. Don't just take our word for it, read actual customer reviews of the product and see what they think. This pen is an incredibly smooth writer and has a very attractive design. The gold sun on the grey background is really nice. This is my second 6xx series Pelikan and I love the size and the way it writes. I really cannot complain about the price being a 6xx, a special edition and an 18K Pelikan. Wrote great out of the box. I paired it up with J. Herbin's new Stormy Grey to match the color scheme. My only complaint about this pen is the lack of an ink window. I think that any piston pen should have a window on it. I can see the fill on most of my converters other than the odd squeeze one, and all of my piston or vacuum filler either have windows or are demonstrators. This is the only pen I currently have which had no way of checking whether the ink is running low. Still a great pen and I carry it all the time (with a backup).

The Pelikan Mount Everest 640 Special Edition is a beautifully designed addition to my pen collection but more than that, it writes as if I have been using it for years. The smooth flow of ink and the glide of the nib make this pen instantly one of my most attractive pens. I am already using it regularly. Very impressive!

I saw the special on the Pelikan Mont Blanc pen and decided to get one through Pen Chalet. Their service is beyond reproach. The pen writes quite well, its smoothness and handling are the best so far. I use fountain pens during my school years, now I try to enjoy writing and calligraphy. I used dip pens in addition to fountain pens for my writing. Writing the Pelikan Mont Blanc is an unique pleasure. Due to my limited experience with expensive fountain pens I cannot say that's the ultimate. The fountain pens I used so far are Pilot Vanishing and Falcon model, Hero, Parker 45, Lamy Safari, Studio, Conklin Herringbone. The Pelikan model is worth of the expense. The Pilot Falcon and Safari Studio with medium nib are also good but their prices ranges are different, therefore comparing them to the Pelikan Mont Blanc will be unfair. But if you have 280usd to spare and willing to spend that amount in pen then the Mont Blanc model is worth considering as long as the deal is still available at this site. I will look for opportunity to try the Parker Premier or Shaeffer Heritage in order to comporare their smoothness and "writability" with this Pelikan. "Hey you never know" they said.

I saw a special for this pen on the website; I has been looking for Pelikan fountain pen. I used Pilot/Namiki, Lamy, Conklin, and Noodler. When young I used Pilot, Hero and Parker but at that time you don't have time to appreciate their qualities. So far the Pelikan is one of the smoothtest pen. May be later I will compare with the other brands' pens such as Parker Duofold or Shaeffer Legacy. Grab one when it's on sale.
The service is top notch.
