Pilot Vanishing Point Fountain Pen Review
Product Review of the Pilot Vanishing Point Collection Fountain Pens
The Pilot vanishing point fountain pen comes in a wide selection of colors to choose from. There are a couple colors that really caught my eye, the gun metal with matte black and the all matte black finish. The nib on the pen is a glossy black to match the black matte pen.
Most fountain pens are capped. One of the distinguishing features of the Pilot Vanishing point fountain pen is the way the nib retracts. The pen operates like a ballpoint pen with a "click action" to retract or extend the writing nib on the pen. This is a great convenience factor when using the pen making it quick and easy to use. One item to consider with this pen is that since the nib should be kept upright in your pocket the clip is located on the end of the barrel next to the nib rather than at the opposite end. For me this works just fine but for some writing styles the clip can be in the way of where you position your hand on the barrel of the pen making it awkward to use.
The Pilot Vanishing Point is made from all metal components making it a bit heftier than other pens. I do not find that it is overly heavy and the pen is well balanced making it enjoyable for use over longer periods.
The pen is well made with precision and is a very high quality pen. The pen disassembles by unscrewing the barrel at the center. Inside the nib section slides out of the pen. Included with the pen is an in converter as well as an ink cartridge. The pen will only accept the proprietary Pilot ink cartridges. Since the entire nib assembly comes out of the pen maintenance and cleaning are easy.
There is very little on the pen in the way of branding. On the back of the pen in the middle of the barrel is a subtle print of "Pilot Japan". Pilot has done a great job of not over branding the pen.
The Pilot Vanishing Point is a rock solid fountain pen. It is well made, fun to use and performs excellent. It looks great too.

Pros of the Pilot Vanishing Point
- Convenient to use with the retractable nib.

- Looks great.
Cons of the Pilot Vanishing Point

This is my first Pilot Vanishing Point pen. I got the Medium NIB. The vanishing point is very smooth writing pen. I was concerned about the clip being in the way of my grip - I'm a lefty -- however that was not a problem at all. The pen felt great in my hand and fast became my favorite pen. I use this pen every day at work. Was a little spendie but I'm glad I purchased the pen. Pen Chalet has great customer service and the pen was shipped very fast - 3 days.

This pen is my second gold nib. I was not sure which nib size that going to work for me between the F nib and M nib. I researched it and found out that the Japanese nib is finer than the western nib. Since my Lamy 2000 is an F nib, I expected that the M nib in VF would be similar in thickness to Lamy 2000. So, I decided to go to the M nib. However, the VP's M nib is way broader than my other FPs' M nibs. It did not satisfy my expectation since I decided to purchase it as my EDC pen. But I see a lot of variation of sheen using this pen. Also, I was skeptical about the clip, but it does not bother me at all. I am thinking about getting the F nib in another color.

I absolutely LOVE this pen; it is a soft writing fine nib. It is a pleasure to write with and extremely practical. It catches the attention of others which can sometimes be a good thing. Long story short, this was a good buy.

This is a cool pen and I love the design, but I noticed it skips a lot when I write. I realized this isn't the pen's fault, but how I write. I shift my grip a lot so the tip of the pen isn't always hitting the paper at the right angle for optimal ink flow. I think with this particular nib it's more noticeable than with other nibs. I'm slowly trying to adjust...without hurting my wrist. We'll see how it goes. Other than that this is a great looking pen and it writes super, super smoothly.

I love the vanishing point. Was hesitant due to the clip, but the clip is no issue. Love the black coated gold nib and the retractable mechanism. Medium line is like western medium and is very smooth - a lovely writer. It fits in my hands well and is not heavy - enjoyable daily writer. No hard starts, writes every time. One of my favorites. Thanks for the great service Pen Chalet!
