Pilot Vanishing Point Fountain Pen Review

Product Review of the Pilot Vanishing Point Collection Fountain Pens

The Pilot vanishing point fountain pen comes in a wide selection of colors to choose from. There are a couple colors that really caught my eye, the gun metal with matte black and the all matte black finish. The nib on the pen is a glossy black to match the black matte pen.

Pilot Vanishing Point Fountain Pen Nib ReviewI opted for the extra fine nib which when I first tried the pen was very scratchy. As I began to use the pen the nib began to smooth out some and I enjoy using the pen. Since it is an extra fine nib it will never be as smooth as wider nibs. I have also used the Pilot Vanishing Point with a medium nib and it is a much smoother writer. So if you like a smoother pen I would suggest a wider nib. I do love how fine the pen writes with the extra fine nib and I can write great detail using it.

Most fountain pens are capped. One of the distinguishing features of the Pilot Vanishing point fountain pen is the way the nib retracts. The pen operates like a ballpoint pen with a "click action" to retract or extend the writing nib on the pen. This is a great convenience factor when using the pen making it quick and easy to use. One item to consider with this pen is that since the nib should be kept upright in your pocket the clip is located on the end of the barrel next to the nib rather than at the opposite end. For me this works just fine but for some writing styles the clip can be in the way of where you position your hand on the barrel of the pen making it awkward to use.

The Pilot Vanishing Point is made from all metal components making it a bit heftier than other pens. I do not find that it is overly heavy and the pen is well balanced making it enjoyable for use over longer periods.

The pen is well made with precision and is a very high quality pen. The pen disassembles by unscrewing the barrel at the center. Inside the nib section slides out of the pen. Included with the pen is an in converter as well as an ink cartridge. The pen will only accept the proprietary Pilot ink cartridges. Since the entire nib assembly comes out of the pen maintenance and cleaning are easy.

There is very little on the pen in the way of branding. On the back of the pen in the middle of the barrel is a subtle print of "Pilot Japan". Pilot has done a great job of not over branding the pen.

The Pilot Vanishing Point is a rock solid fountain pen. It is well made, fun to use and performs excellent. It looks great too.

This is an outstanding pen. I'm enjoying writing with it. Even though I have several other fountain pens, which I made myself, I find myself using this on more often. The only regret I have is that I didn't but it with a fine nib rather than the medium nib. Fortunately Pen Chalet stocks these nibs, so I bought the fine nib and it is simply perfect for my handwriting style. Pen Chalet ships their product immediately, so i did not have to wait no more that a day or two. Great pen and great service.

such a beautiful, functional pen. i got the stub nib, and even after like 6 months of use, it's never been dry, never had a hard start, never been scratchy. the nib is going to be a little softer than you're anticipating (especially for a stub nib, it's my only really soft stub), but you probably shouldn't flex it too much. black/silver is the best color combo, imo, ended up going with "carbonesque" and IT'S SO PRETTY. you can just barely feel the dots as a nice texture, but it's not bumpy, just kinda grippy.

I love the VP pen. The nib is very smooth and even though the converter is awful the pen os great and it is the only pen I always use cartridges for because it is easier and quicker.

Writes amazingly smooth. The click is satisfyingly sturdy and I won't lie I spent some time watching the trapdoor open??

I held off for a long time because the idea of a click pen just didn't do it for me. I. Was. Wrong. This pen feels very sturdy and the nib is a joy to write!

The Vanishing Point is one of my favorite pens so it seemed obvious to get it with a stub nib when I was beginning to experiment with those. I am glad I did. It is a great pen with a quality nib.

I purchased a red and gold vanishing point with a broad nib. It is my first capless pen. I find myself using it so often because it writes smoothly on all my different fountain pen friendly papers. Any stationary or journals or sketchbook I happen to grab, this pen always performs great. I sketch with the pen, too and it’s possible to get light shading by barely touching the nib to paper, and also produces consistently nice outlines. It has never skipped on me. The small ink capacity is not really a problem for me since I don’t change Ink color very often and it’s so easy to fill. Practical, affordable, beautiful, a great value.
