Pilot Vanishing Point Fountain Pen Review

Product Review of the Pilot Vanishing Point Collection Fountain Pens

The Pilot vanishing point fountain pen comes in a wide selection of colors to choose from. There are a couple colors that really caught my eye, the gun metal with matte black and the all matte black finish. The nib on the pen is a glossy black to match the black matte pen.

Pilot Vanishing Point Fountain Pen Nib ReviewI opted for the extra fine nib which when I first tried the pen was very scratchy. As I began to use the pen the nib began to smooth out some and I enjoy using the pen. Since it is an extra fine nib it will never be as smooth as wider nibs. I have also used the Pilot Vanishing Point with a medium nib and it is a much smoother writer. So if you like a smoother pen I would suggest a wider nib. I do love how fine the pen writes with the extra fine nib and I can write great detail using it.

Most fountain pens are capped. One of the distinguishing features of the Pilot Vanishing point fountain pen is the way the nib retracts. The pen operates like a ballpoint pen with a "click action" to retract or extend the writing nib on the pen. This is a great convenience factor when using the pen making it quick and easy to use. One item to consider with this pen is that since the nib should be kept upright in your pocket the clip is located on the end of the barrel next to the nib rather than at the opposite end. For me this works just fine but for some writing styles the clip can be in the way of where you position your hand on the barrel of the pen making it awkward to use.

The Pilot Vanishing Point is made from all metal components making it a bit heftier than other pens. I do not find that it is overly heavy and the pen is well balanced making it enjoyable for use over longer periods.

The pen is well made with precision and is a very high quality pen. The pen disassembles by unscrewing the barrel at the center. Inside the nib section slides out of the pen. Included with the pen is an in converter as well as an ink cartridge. The pen will only accept the proprietary Pilot ink cartridges. Since the entire nib assembly comes out of the pen maintenance and cleaning are easy.

There is very little on the pen in the way of branding. On the back of the pen in the middle of the barrel is a subtle print of "Pilot Japan". Pilot has done a great job of not over branding the pen.

The Pilot Vanishing Point is a rock solid fountain pen. It is well made, fun to use and performs excellent. It looks great too.

The Vanishing Point is one of my favorite pens so it seemed obvious to get it with a stub nib when I was beginning to experiment with those. I am glad I did. It is a great pen with a quality nib.

I purchased a red and gold vanishing point with a broad nib. It is my first capless pen. I find myself using it so often because it writes smoothly on all my different fountain pen friendly papers. Any stationary or journals or sketchbook I happen to grab, this pen always performs great. I sketch with the pen, too and it’s possible to get light shading by barely touching the nib to paper, and also produces consistently nice outlines. It has never skipped on me. The small ink capacity is not really a problem for me since I don’t change Ink color very often and it’s so easy to fill. Practical, affordable, beautiful, a great value.

I especially like the Carbonesque VP because it’s a bit heftier than the Decimo while still affording the VP option. The new stub nib is the frosting on the cake! This black Carbonesque joins four others that I own and will become one of my everyday pens! Pen Chalet was a pleasure to deal with! Highly recommend both the pen and the vendor!

I love the matte black version. This is one of several vanishing points which is a great pen and super convenient for quick notes. The extra fine is extremely fine so you have to have a need for something this fine. I also own the fin which is a smoother writing nib with much less feedback.

This was a birthday present for my wife. The stub nib was very harsh and scratchy out of the box, but I tuned it with some polishing pads. 9 months later, this is the only pen she wants to use and has stopped using the other 3 FPs she has.

perfect pen. pen chalet gave me an option to change the nip to 1mm stub, which serves me in every aspect to my full satisfaction.
solid high build quality, very smooth nip

ink sucking hole is about an inch above from the tip of the nip, therefore, snorkel would be required to fill it up from bottled ink.

I'm partial to softer springy and bouncy nibs (such as platinum 3776) - this nib fits the bill, and the retractable form makes it so convenient. I have the matte black: really enjoying its stealthy look and the texture of the matte surface. The weight and girth are ideal for my larger hands (I'm a tall woman) and well balanced. A smaller person might prefer the Decimo. In future I look forward to buying a second one in a different nib width, perhaps a limited edition body, and being able to swap bodies around will be great fun.
