The Visconti company was founded by Dante Del Vecchio in Florence, Italy in 1988. Each Visconti writing instrument is hand crafted to create the highest level of beauty and artistry. Each Visconti pen is made with the highest quality materials and cutting-edge technology making each item truly a masterpiece. Visconti is truly one of the worlds leading manufacturers of fine writing instruments.
Visconti's vision is truly revolutionary with the materials and components they use such as volcanic lava. First introduced in 2010, Visconti created a collection of fine writing instruments using basaltic lava from Mount Etna. The lava is mixed with a patented resin formula creating a virtually unbreakable material. Not only is it unique but both beautiful and function-able.
Visconti has also worked with artist Claudio Mazzi who paints objects for private collectors and large companies such as Maserati, Ducati and Ferrari. Mazzi has created a number of limited edition pieces that are truly remarkable.
Another remarkable invention by Visconti is the double reservoir power filling system in some of their fountain pens. With the addition of a second reservoir the patented filling prevents leakage and is ideal for the traveler.
Each component of their pens have been improved over time both for performance and quality. These and others are just an example of the ingenuity of the Visconti brand setting themselves apart from other pen companies.
Visconti offers a two year warranty on regular edition writing tools that covers all manufacturer defects. Limited edition pens come with a lifetime warranty.

Customer Reviews

Crystal Dream... my dream pen. Symmetry, style, function, beauty. I love this pen. I do wish it was a magnetic cap and post but other than that, it is amazing! Love the lava rock, the large window, and dual reservoir. It holds four times more ink than most fountain pens and is airplane safe to hold ink. The large window looks much better when ink is held and the effect is wonderful. Please make more and consider a magnetic cap!

This pen has great balance and a smooth nib with just a bit of bounce. The design is a revision of the former model and has all the quality and feel of Viscontii for a bargain price. It has a reliable magnetic capping and posting mechanism. The matte gold finish looks classy and complements the pen.

This pen looks gorgeous and writes well. I bought a polishing cloth for the silver to keep its shine. The design and color made this a grail pen for me and it does not disappoint. Check out penboyroy for an in-depth video review of this flawless pen.

I heard Dennis Prager mention the Visconti Van Gogh pens and decided to use the bonus I got from work to treat myself. I love the hand feel and overall quality. The magnetic cap system gives me added assurance that the pen is securely closed so that it doesn't accidentally open and leak ink into my shirt pocket.

I really love this pen, because the very fine nib is very, very fine. I think it's the finest nib I have, and I need one this fine for drawing, so it's perfect for me. I don't use it often, so I do have to rinse it off and sometimes soak it overnight occasionally. Still a great pen. I'd buy it again. I also like that the cap is magnetically attached, so it opens faster, less time spent unscrewing the cap. Great pen!

Beautiful pen, stub nib. Love its weight and feel. Out of the box had hard ink start issue. Called Pen Chalet, who offered to return & credit, or for me to send to Warranty repair in North Carolina, which I did. Distributor got it on Tuesday, fixed too tight tines and shipped out same day. Had it back by Saturday. Great service, would have been nice to be so out of the box but understand things happen on way from Italy to US to me. But fantastic service and love the even, stub nib! And that level of service encourages me to buy another Visconti when I can!!

If you are looking for a high-end pen, I recommend this one. I'm a fan of Visconti to begin with. Their pens have a design aesthetic that I love. The Homo Sapiens is their flagship line, and it shows. It is an expensive pen, there is no doubt about that. However, it is not a normal pen. You've read the description no doubt and the thought of a pen made from lava excites you. Then you add that it is from the famous Mt. Etna and your imagination starts to spin. You're holding something unique to be sure.
Lava is important because it means the pen has a silky feel against your hand as you write. It writes as smooth as it feels too. I got the stub nib, which writes very broad in italics and writes "wet", meaning a lot of ink flows. So many pens I have write dry, and this drives me crazy. There is a balance to be found between too wet and too dry, this pen meets that balance.
A lot of people look for the Pelikan M1000 because they want that wonderfully large nib. The Crystal Dream has that. It's a massive rose gold nib that's just wonderful to look at.
One thing of NOTE is that you may see the pen, with the clear area, and think form the pictures that this clear area kind of messes with the overall look of the pen. Keep in mind that this rea will be full of ink so it doesn't look like a clear area when there is ink in it. I put the Walnut Noodler's in it and the pen looks wonderful full up. The two ink windows (yes, two) are so useful.
The engineering of the pen is one thing that makes it worth the money. Not only is it solidly built (Visconti says unbreakable) but the mechanism of the double fill system is brilliant. You store tons of ink in the clear area, then you twist a little knob in the back, and it fill the front reservoir from which you actually write. Once it is full you can write forever there is just so much ink in the pen.
I also purchased the traveling inkwell with this. It's nice because it is about the same size and shape as the pen so if you buy a carrying case that carries two pens you can fill one of the slots with the pen, and the other with the ink well and always be ready to write.
