About the Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream

The Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream fountain pen features the same body style and 'double reservoir' power filling system found on the original Homo Sapiens but with a Crystal ink chamber. With a section of the Homo Sapiens body replaced with a clear crystal acrylic tube, the pen becomes somewhat of a demonstrator, allowing not only the ink level to be viewed but also the inner workings of the pen.

The original Homo Sapiens came with Visconti's 'single reservoir' power filling system while this pen has been upgraded to the double reservoir. This system is easy to use and has some considerable benefits. One of the most advanced fountain pen filling systems, the double reservoir features two reservoirs to prevent leaking during air travel.

One other change is the crystal ring at the grip section of the pen. The standard metal has been replaced with crystal acrylic resin for viewing of stored ink within the second ink reservoir.

Each Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream fountain pen comes fitted with an 18k gold nib in rose to match the trim. As with the original Homo Sapiens, the Crystal Dream has been made from volcanic lava rock making the pen virtual unbreakable. The cap also features Visconti's 'hook safe lock' for easy removal.

Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream Video Script

This is the Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream Fountain pen. The pen comes in a gray cardboard box. It has the "Visconti" logo embossed in silver on the top of the box lid. Included with the pen is some information about Visconti. A little small pamphlet here. There is also the International Warranty, as well as the instructions for the pen. The pen sits in a fabric bed with a Visconti ribbon holding it in place.

And, of course, we have the Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream Fountain pen. The Homo Sapiens fountain pen is very popular, probably the best selling pen for Visconti. The Crystal Dream is a different take on the pen. It made with the same material that is used for the Homo Sapiens, which is made out of lava rock and they make a resin material out of it. The result is a nice black material with rose gold trim.

The pen has has a Visconti logo on the top of the cap. The traditional arch shape design rose gold clip with the Visconti logo in a black field background. Then there are two rings on the cap in the matching rose gold as well. There is also two rings on the barrel of the pen. At the end of the barrel is just a small metal medallion.

There are ink viewing windows that make the Crystal Dream Fountain pen different than the other Homo Sapiens. The difference is an ink viewing window in the barrel and one near the section the double reservoirs so you can see both reservoirs. On the one near the section, it is engraved in black with "Homo Sapiens". And then the one in the barrel, you can see the ink level inside as well as the piston inside.

The whole section on the end of the barrel is the piston knob to fill a pen. It will unscrew and then it will allow you to pull the piston out. When pushed back it in it compresses the air creating a vacuum and pulls the ink into the body chamber of the pen.

The cap has a Hook Safe Lock. A Quarter turn takes the cap off nice and easily. There are a few channels cut into the barrel of the pen that allow the cap to connect to the section. It may feel like that gets in the way when you are writing. For my personal pen style it is not a problem, but maybe for some. It is just a great design for removing the cap quickly and easily. Just a quick quarter turn with a slight compression to it to keep the ink fresh inside, as well.

The pen comes with a gold nib that is rose gold color and matches the rest of the pen with a black feed, as well.

Just a great pen. If you've ever wanted to try a Homo Sapiens, then this is a great option. Ideal if you would like to see the ink levels inside. Get your Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream fountain pen at PenChalet.com!

If you are looking for a high-end pen, I recommend this one. I'm a fan of Visconti to begin with. Their pens have a design aesthetic that I love. The Homo Sapiens is their flagship line, and it shows. It is an expensive pen, there is no doubt about that. However, it is not a normal pen. You've read the description no doubt and the thought of a pen made from lava excites you. Then you add that it is from the famous Mt. Etna and your imagination starts to spin. You're holding something unique to be sure.

Lava is important because it means the pen has a silky feel against your hand as you write. It writes as smooth as it feels too. I got the stub nib, which writes very broad in italics and writes "wet", meaning a lot of ink flows. So many pens I have write dry, and this drives me crazy. There is a balance to be found between too wet and too dry, this pen meets that balance.

A lot of people look for the Pelikan M1000 because they want that wonderfully large nib. The Crystal Dream has that. It's a massive rose gold nib that's just wonderful to look at.

One thing of NOTE is that you may see the pen, with the clear area, and think form the pictures that this clear area kind of messes with the overall look of the pen. Keep in mind that this rea will be full of ink so it doesn't look like a clear area when there is ink in it. I put the Walnut Noodler's in it and the pen looks wonderful full up. The two ink windows (yes, two) are so useful.

The engineering of the pen is one thing that makes it worth the money. Not only is it solidly built (Visconti says unbreakable) but the mechanism of the double fill system is brilliant. You store tons of ink in the clear area, then you twist a little knob in the back, and it fill the front reservoir from which you actually write. Once it is full you can write forever there is just so much ink in the pen.

I also purchased the traveling inkwell with this. It's nice because it is about the same size and shape as the pen so if you buy a carrying case that carries two pens you can fill one of the slots with the pen, and the other with the ink well and always be ready to write.

Guys this pen is the aston martin of italian pens, I got mine in an extra fine which writes like a japanese fine nib size and the nib is very smooth and I love it. This pen is like the lamy 2000 makrolon/black version but on steroids! Both the crystal dream and lamy 2000 have smooth gold nibs, both carry alot of ink though the crystal dream holds an ocean's worth of ink, and both pens are highly durable though the lamy 2000 is made of durable makrolon while the crystal dream is made of virtually indestructible basaltic lava! And the ink window on the crystal dream is not made of glass, it is made of polished acrylic and acrylic is lighter than glass and much more durable! Get a visconti 3 pen and 6 pen case to go along with it so you can carry your pens in style! The only 3 fountain pens you'll ever need are: Pilot custom 823, visconti crystal dream and/or skylight, and a montblanc 146 and/or 149 but if you don't want to spend alot for the montblancs than just get the lamy 2000 makrolon/black because it comes with an ink window and warms up very well in your hand while the lamy 2000 stainless steel has no ink window and is virtually twice the price of the makrolon/black version.
