TWSBI Diamond 580ALR Video Script

This is the TWSBI 580 ALR fountain pen. It comes in a cardboard box with a TWSBI logo on the top. Inside, there is information about TWSBI, as well as the use and care guide, and instructions for the pen. The pen comes in a cardboard box, but inside the cardboard box is a plastic box for the pen with a clear transparent lid that lifts off. Inside there is the TWSBI logo on the base on which the pen sits.

And, of course we have the TWSBI 580 AL fountain pen. It is a piston style pen and you can see the ink levels inside as well as the piston as it works. The pen has different colored aluminum sections within the pen. This happens to be a purple pen so you can see inside the knob and the mechanism. The cap has a ring engraved with TWSBI and Diamond 580 ALR. Since it is a demonstrator body you can see the inside of the pen. The cap has an inner cap that's a little different color, more of a smokey color. The pen has a matching ring at the top with the same purple color. Then the TWSBI logo in red on the top of the cap.

Silver-colored trim, so there is a silver clip and the barrel has been extruded with grooves, so the plastic on the barrel has a little bit of a shimmer or a sparkle as you twist it. To control the piston, the knob on the end simply unscrews and the piston runs inside the barrel of the pen to allow you to fill it with ink. You are also able to see the ink levels inside.

It is a screw-off cap that will post. It just barely sits on the end and is a pretty long pen with the cap posted. You do not necessarily need to cap it, but you can. It has a matching section with the rest of the pen. The section has a bit of a grip with small grooves cut into it. Not sure if you can see that on the video, but it does give you some nice grip when you hold it. The pen has a silver-colored chrome ring on the front, black feed, and a silver stainless steel nib engraved with the TWSBI logo.

Great pen if you're looking for a piston style fountain pen. Get your TWSBI Diamond 580 ALR fountain pen at PenChalet.com!

Really excellent pen. I'm really not sure whether I like these or the Vac 700R's better. I prefer the Vac 700Rs filling system and those are more substantial pens, look nicer when seen in person and fit my hand better. However Jowo #6 nibs on the Vacs are absolute nails whereas the #5s on these are just every so slightly softer which makes all the difference. Both the #5 and #6 nibs are nails but it's just a difference in degree on how much of a nail they are.

I got an extra fine. There is some feedback but it's really smooth given how fine it is. Slightly dry until I flushed it. Perfect a flush. Some Jowo XF nibs on TWSBI pens need a bit of micro mesh treatment. The one I got on the 580ALR did not unlike my Ecos. I don't know if I got lucky or if there is better QC on 580 nibs.

The TWSBI fountain pen is one of two that are currently being used. The other is a Conklin.
This pen is very smooth writing, and fits my hand very nicely. The one thing that that some people are going to object to is the grip. Instead of being smooth resin, it is machined aluminum with a series of ridges that run around the grip. This is not a problem for me, but could be for others.

The piston fill is easy to use, and loads a lot of ink into the clear barrel. It is interesting to watch the ink slosh around inside of the pen when writing. If the piston should need service a special wrench is provided to disassemble the pen. Also included in the package is the needed silicone grease to apply to the piston.

I bought this TWSBI 580ALR in Prussian Blue in the Final Drop section of this web page, and I loved it. It has a stub 1.1 mm nib. The tip does not feel rough or coarse on the paper. It is a stiff steel nib, so it does not feel soft, but it is nice to work with, and it does not have much feedback. I recommend it if you want an entry level stub nib. And the price was like USD 20.00 down its retail price, so it was a good purchase.

I love these pens. The five I have (different finishes) are all Fine nibs. Well made, perform perfectly, well priced. You really can’t ask for more for a practical, affordable “workhorse” pen.

Super nice for being my first fountain pen. I was concerned at first because of not so good writing. Then I tried it on a good quality and smooth 100gm. Now I'm happy. Quality paper makes a super difference. Take that into consideration.

This is my 2nd TWSBI, and I love the pens. My 1st was an Eco. I especially like being able to take this one apart.

Have the stub nib. Love it, when it works. It’s definitely finicky which is to be expected, but I think more finicky than I expected. Then again, I don’t have other stub nibs to compare to so I can only say that it underperformed my expectations. That said, When it starts, it works great.

As to the look of the TWSBI... I don’t like it. I dislike the smoky pen cap area. I don’t like the look of the R-model ridges (I don’t mind the feel bit dirt/grime builds up in ridges over time). And I just don’t think I’m all that impressed with the overall styling. The eco looks cuter!
