About Laurel Green Platinum 3776 Century

Nearing its first century of existence the Platinum Pen Company created the Platinum 3776 Century fountain pen. The pen is a result of tradition and untiring efforts. The pen was originally released in 1978 and has been popular ever since. The number 3776 represents the height in meters of Mt. Fuji, the highest peak in Japan.

The Platinum 3776 pen has an innovative cap with the "Slip & Seal" mechanism. This design keeps the ink from drying out inside the pen over time as well as regulate the ink flow in the pen.

The Platinum 3776 Century fountain pen comes with a 14k gold nib and a cartridge converter style fill system.

Note: The converter is no longer included with the Platinum 3776 fountain pen and the Platinum 500 converter must be purchased separately.

Pens are compatible with Platinum ink cartridges and Platinum fountain pen converters for use with bottled inks.

Platinum 3776 Century Video Script

This is the Platinum 3776 Century fountain pen. It comes in either blue or white faux leather box. Since is that the Shoji version of the pen it is a white faux leather box. It has a hinged top to it and included with the pen have informational instructions about the 3776 fountain pen. On the underside of the lid we have 3776 Shoji with some Japanese characters.

This is a cartridge converter style pen. Included with the pen is a blue and a black ink cartridge. A converter for the pen is actually inside the pen(No longer included with the pen). You can see that through the barrel since this is a demonstrator style pen. You can see the inside the pen.

This Shoji fountain pen is a limited edition pen. It has a slight blue tint to the pen and chrome accents. On the top of the cap it has a small chrome band that runs around the cap. That holds that chrome clip on. You can actually see inside the cap and see that "slip and seal" mechanism that is a trademark mechanism that Platinum has developed. It is great because it keeps your pen fresh and ready to write. It keeps it from drying out.

Then on the cap we have 3776 engraved with Platinum made in Japan. Then at the bottom of the barrel we have a small chrome band that runs around the pen. You can see on the inside, you can see that converter. The cap on the pen unscrews. This is a larger pen so you can write with or without it posted. It's not too heavy. It's a resin pen so it's not too heavy to hold. It has a small chrome band that runs around the grip section here and at the very tip of the cap. Now this is gold nib. It's a 14-karat gold nib. Engraved on the nib is 3776 and the Platinum logo.

To exchange the ink on this pen you simply unscrew that grip section for the barrel. Since it already has an ink converter attached you would dip that nib into your ink and screw the end of this converter to draw the into that chamber. If you'd like to use a cartridge style ink you simply unscrew that converter and you can put the cartridges on. Actually it just pulls of it doesn't screw.

Platinum is a great company. They are a Japanese brand that makes fantastic writing instruments. Get your Platinum 3776 Century fountain pen at PenChalet.com!

I heard a lot about the 3776 and decided to try it. I got the fine nib. It has a unique feel on the general paper I write on at work, but I have been using it regularly and have grown to really like the feel and the way it writes. I am impressed that it always starts ink flow right away.

One of my favorite pens. The fine nib might not be for everyone, but if you love accuracy and satisfying feedback, it's great

This is my second Platinum 3776, the first having a light brown and black cellulose barrel and cap with gold colored appointments and a 14k fine nib. This new one is different only in appearance with a translucent dark green barrel. Both are easy on the eyes and write smooth as an Olympic ice-skater. Oh yea, they are both a lot of bang for the buck.

This is my second 3776 Century pen, the first with SF nib. It writes smoothly, with very little feedback.

This pen is exquisite! I love the broad nib, and the ink flow is smooth. The barrel fits nicely in the hand and is a beautiful dark green, almost black.

This is a nice pen. It feels good in the hand, super light, and the Chartres blue is really pretty. The 14k nib is nice with a bit of feedback, but not unpleasant. It went to being one of my top used pens.

This was my first gold nib pen and after heavy use for several weeks it has become one of my top workhorse fountain pens along with my Leonardo Momento Zero. A few things I believe make this pen a good EDC. The style is professional (in the black), it is a very reliable writer without any hard starts or skipping, it is well balanced posted and is comfortable for long writing sessions. Finally, the gold nib provides a different feel (like a pencil) that gives a very pleasant feedback. Finally,, a couple things that could be better. It is a very light pen, made of plastic with a budget feel and the medium nib was a dry writer. I was able to open up the tines slightly with a brass shim which corrected this to some extent. Over all enjoy the pen and don't regret the purchase.

FAQs about the Platinum 3776 Century

Q:
Is possible to use any brand of ink with this fountain pen?
Asked on Aug 18 2018 by Mario
A:
Platinum pens are proprietary so you will have to use Platinum ink cartridges or a Platinum converter, which then you can choose which bottled ink you want to use.
Q:
What is the difference between a soft fine nib and a fine and medium nib?
Asked on May 7 2015 by Chih
A:
The difference between the soft fine and the fine is the soft fine nib will have some flex in the nib to allow for line variation in the stroke.
Q:
Is "medium fine" the same as "soft fine"?
Asked on Jan 20 2015 by Mike
A:
No, the medium fine is between a fine nib and a medium nib in size. There is a specific "soft fine" nib if you are interested.
Q:
Does it come with a cartridge converter or must that be purchased separately?
Asked on Nov 27 2014 by Kane
A:
The Platinum 3776 fountain pen comes with a cartridge but no longer comes with a Platinum 500 ink converter and must be ordered separately.
Q:
Is it available in the new "Soft Fine" nib?
Asked on Oct 30 2014 by Paul Field
A:
The Platinum 3776 fountain pen is available with the soft fine nib in either the Black, Bourgogne, or Chartres Blue colors. We would have to special order it though and it would take an extra week.
