Visconti Homo Sapiens Jade Reviews
What can I say about this pen...
For starters, Visconti QC problems are still a thing. My pen first arrived with a tad scratchy, misaligned nib. The replacement nib was fine, but the center and rotated, and it is supposed to be fixed. I had it replaced, rather than repaired, and now it is excellent. I guess the positive angle is the Coles of London, the US Visconti distributor, will work very hard to get your pen working properly.
The nib writes beautifully, and is *very* springy, with good snapback. The flow is pretty wet, but not a firehose. The nib is smooth, but with the right amount of feedback for an EF. It’s a pretty true western extra fine line width. The one downside is it tends to bleed through absorbent paper pretty much regardless of the ink you fill it with.
The filling system holds a lot of ink, and I love the double reservoir idea. I wish you could see the primary reservoir though - it’s being the center band. Only the secondary, larger reservoir is visible. The one downside, like most vacuum fillers, is that it’s pretty tough to clean. You should plan to stick to one kind of ink, and not use anything too harsh.
The color is a wonderful green, and the packaging is wonderful. I wish the included ink bottle was the old style vaulted glass, but it’s nice nonetheless. The pen has a good weight, and can survive a tumble out of a shirt pocket (oops) just fine.
Interestingly, the feed does have a bit of an odor to it, that while not strong, is pretty noticeable. I’m not sure what material they use for it, but I’d believe it’s not injection molded plastic if you told me that.
