Platinum Curidas Video Script

This is the Platinum Curidas fountain pen. The pen is made of a clear demonstrator resin body, with silver trim. There is a silver ring at the center of the pen, a removable silver clip, and a stainless steel silver-colored nib to match the rest of the trim on the pen. It has a black feed and it is a retractable pen. A small knob on the end allows you to retract the nib in and out of the barrel of the pen.

This knob is quite long because of the travel of the pen. It is made to travel quite deep into the pen, but also extend quite far out, which allows you to actually see the nib more while you are writing. Since you can see the end of the nib it is easier than some of the other retractable nib pens where they are quite short and don't extend out very far.

On the body of the pen, it is engraved with Platinum, Made In Japan, and Curidas on the barrel. To change the ink on the pen, you would unscrew the back section of the body, and it comes off. There is a small housing for the Platinum converter or cartridge that removes with a half twist and pops out, which removes the whole nib section. Then there is another half twist, which the housing will come off the nib of the pen. You can then put a converter on the pen, which is not included, or a Platinum ink cartridge, they slide on the end of the feed. You would then slide the housing back on with the half click. Then the nib section goes right back in with the half click as well. And the body then screws back on.

One of the nice features of the Curidas pen is the clip. A lot of people do not like the clips on the retractable nib pens. So, Platinum includes a small tool with the pen, which just slides on to the body of the pen. You push it on, and then you slide it towards the back, and the clip comes right off the pen.

So, if you don't want to use the pen with the clip, it does have a small extension on the barrel that sticks out where the clip attaches to keep it from rolling off the table. There's also a little knob on the other side of the pen as well. This is for the actual extension mechanism. You can see how it fits right into that little groove, and that allows the pen to extend out.

The mechanism inside is actually made of plastic to keep it from rusting and/or deteriorating with the ink. But it also never touches the nib, and that is for that long travel with the nib. It allows the mechanism never to touch the end of the tip of the nib, which is great because it will not wear out the nib on the pen as it is pushing it out. It's actually controlled by the rest of the mechanisms inside, which is a nice feature. The pen also will hold ink for up to six to eight months without drying out which is another nice feature of the pen.

Great new pen from Platinum, great retractable nib system. Get your Platinum Curidas fountain pen at PenChalet.com!

The Curidas is a special and different fountain pen. It has the convenience and ease of use of a ball point pen and the fine writing of a fountain pen. However it is a big pen with a larger grip than a normal size FP. I am a right hand writer and normally I turn my nib slightly to the left. This is not possible with the Curidas unless I remove the clip. As I carry my pens in my shirt pocket I don't remove the clip. So I changed my grip somehow and I feel fine writing with the Curidas because Platinum has designed the little door bump under the pen so that the major finger can rest confortably under it. Testing the pen for a long writing session is the next step...

Gem like transparency

Springy, Quick writing experience. The nib has some give in its mounting that gives it a unique feel that aids writing quickly columns of numbers. I chose a Fine. I filled it with Lexington Gray to approximate a graphite like writing with indelibiliy. The ink flow is exemplary even at high speed and tight turns.

This reminds me of “historic Safety pen-meets extrasteller space travel”.

It opens so fast and loyally never drips ink - i really don’t care what others who see me using it think of it- its dependable in any work settings- and useful in sketching artistic drawing sessions.

I found the instructions clear. The two sets of tiny turns/peg stops- work precisely easily and are very intuitive. ( if you are reloading ink in a chaotic environment- slow down focus and keep track of the large spring). tip: i take each piech out and lay it on the table in the order it will go back together.

i hope one day to own two to have another as a back up or maybe an EF.

Great option to try the retractable nib fountain pen and more affordable. Did not realize that it came with one cartridge and a converter so now we have an extra converter. Writes beautifully from our test run.

This pen is beautiful and feels so nice in your hand. The weight is perfect. The mechanism to open and close it works amazingly well. Getting the ink to flow took about two days of shaking and reinserting the cartridge. It seems to be flowing now, so hopefully it was just a "new pen" thing.

I own one in red color. Very complicated assembly mechanism but I like it. EF nib is thin and smooth. Overall great pen especially if you do not like the fact that fountain pens need to have cap on all the time. One negative - too long.

I was finally able to ink this up today and give you my opinion on this fountain pen. Though this is a resin / plastic pen the overall construction and quality is done very well as you would expect from Platinum. The nib is perfect with slight hint of feed back for extra fine as expected. Hopefully in the next iteration of this pen if there is one they shorten the push button or make it a twist lock mechanism which I think might work better. However I did find one annoyance about this pen and it has to do with the protrusion regarding the hinged internal flip cap. I found it troublesome to grip the pen properly and the clip did not help either. With a minor internal hack I was able to flip the nib around so that the protrusion faced up and the clip down thus making the pen much more comfortable for me. Eventually I removed the clip entirely which I found no use for. The pen operates as intended with no issues that I could immediately notice. The removal of the clip is perfectly fine and it was option intended to be removed by the user if so desired.
PLEASE NOTE: Any changes made to the internal operation of the pen will void any warranty.

This is a fun and ingenious pen. It isn’t perfect but I don’t regret getting it. It’s a conversation starter and cheaper then the Vanishing Point so I don’t worry as much about losing it.
