This is my first experiment with stub nibs as I'm usually a fine nib guy. I'm glad this nib is a little narrower than a standard 1.1mm stub. I can still write legibly on college ruled paper and the pen is not too wet that I bleed through the cheap paper. I am blown away by how awesome this pen is! My handwriting is still small but it just looks better with that italic calligraphy flair in it. Going to use this pen a lot!

The Pilot Metropolitan is a great pen for the price. I have two, both with a fine nib and have really enjoyed them. It is also nice that they come with a converter. I do not like that the ink level cannot be seen with this converter, but it works well overall. A great value for a good workhorse fountain pen.

This is a surprise performer for me, after using Lamy 2000 and Montegrappa for a while. I wanted a throw around pen in my car and got the Metropolitan, and am blown away by the perfection of the nib (Japanese Medium). It’s a bit lighter so I use it posted and that just works fine.

Great starter pen, comes with a converter and cartridge. Very smooth nib and consistent pen. It is very different from something like a Lamy which provides more feedback. The barrel is metal, and pen has a nice weight, balance and grip. Overall, will make an excellent daily writer, or gift set.

FAQs about the Pilot MR Metropolitan

Q:
What is the difference between the Metro Retro line and the MR? Do they use the same ink cartridges?
Asked on Sep 27 2017 by Kathryn
A:
All of the Pilot Metropolitan pens are the same design with just different color schemes. The Retro line is just newer and more colorful. They both use the same Pilot IC-50 or IC-100 ink cartridges.
Q:
What converter can fit Pilot Metropolitan. I read that Con-50 doesn't fit although it should do so.
Asked on Mar 7 2017 by Ramona
A:
The Pilot Metropolitan Fountain Pen comes with a Pilot CON-20 converter. You also use the Pilot CON-50 as well. The CON-20 is a squeeze type converter while the CON-50 is a piston style and easier to use.
Q:
What is the volume difference between the Con 20 and Con 50?
Asked on Dec 4 2016 by David
A:
Sorry, I missed the question about the ink. The pen only accepts the IC-50 or IC-100 cartridges but if you want bottled inks any we carry will work just fine.
Q:
What converters can fit Pilot MR Metropolitan Fountain Pen? CON-20?50?

Asked on Aug 7 2015 by Jim
A:
Yes, the Pilot Metropolitan Fountain Pens come with one ink cartridge included as well as an ink converter to use with bottled ink.
Q:
What is the Pilot refill cartridge for the Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen? Which refill is best?
Asked on Jul 31 2015 by Jim
A:
The Pilot MR Metropolitan Fountain Pen only accept the Pilot brand cartridges. The correct cartridge for the pen is the Pilot IC-100 or IC-50 cartridges.
Q:
Is this the international version that can use any international size cartridge, or the version that can only use the CON-20/50?
Asked on Dec 7 2014 by Andrew
A:
The Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen only accepts the proprietary Pilot cartridges and converters. It does not accept the standard international.
Q:

Pilot MR Metropolitan Video

Video Script

This is the Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen. I comes in a black cardboard box with the Pilot logo embossed in silver in top. The cardboard box is simply an outer shell. Inside we have a faux leather box with a hinge top to it. Inside of the box on the inside of the lid is the Pilot logo embossed again in silver.

Included with the pen is an additional ink cartridge.

This is the silver version of the Pilot Metropolitan. It is a brushed silver and has a shiny band running through the center section of the pen. There is also a small chrome band running between the cap and the barrel of the pen.

On the backside of the cap we have Pilot Japan. It has a chrome clip. On the one side of the chrome clip is engraved Japan and on the other side is engraved Pilot. The cap on this pen simply snaps off and is easily posted for writing. It is a nice size pen in my hand. It has a chrome band running around right between the nib section and the barrel of the pen and a black nib section of the pen.

The nib on this pen is a stainless steel nib. It has the Pilot logo engraved on it as well as some other etchings.

To replace the cartridge or the converter on this pen we simply unscrew the nib section from the barrel. Included with the pen is a squeeze type converter if you would rather use bottled inks. You simply put the nib in the bottle of ink and you can squeeze the converter to draw the ink into it. It has a spring piece of metal around a rubber chamber. That can be used to draw the ink into it. Instead of a converter if you would rather use a cartridge there is one included or you can use a different color cartridge you can that as well.

This particular fountain pen also comes in a couple different colors. We have a gold version of the pen and we also have a black version of the pen. Each of the pens are a duller or matte finish on the barrel and the cap with a shinier band running around the center of the barrel.

These are some inexpensive but great quality fountain pens. Pilot is a great company. It is a Japanese product. Get yours today at PenChalet.com!
