When you put the lens out a bit, you get the unlighted loupe. Pop it out a little further, you get a light! It works!

All fountain pen enthusiasts will eventually have a problem with a pen. Unfortunately for me, a lady in her 60s, the first pen I purchased in the $50 range from another retailer had a nib that wasn’t properly set - but I didn’t realize that until I purchased and used other fountain pens. I checked prices for fountain pen tools, and Pen Chalet has the best! And, long story shortened, I was able to fix my fountain pen with this loupe and the other supplies! I purchased this as part of a collection of items to help me "tune" the nibs on some of my fountain pens. Especially one that was damaged (but not destroyed) when it fell onto a tile floor nib first! I'm not used to something with such a tight focus and it took some getting used to. The included LED light is very bright and sometimes reflected light makes it difficult to see what I'm looking at, but I think that will go away as I use it more and get some practice with it.

I found this product to be of extremely poor quality. The plastic parts could break at the slightest mishandling. Mine arrived with dead batteries as well. Of course I returned it and was given a full refund. If you really want a useful tool, do not buy this product.

It came to me broken. The batteries refused to stay in the slot, so the light first work. That aside, the loupe works great. You can see EVERYTHING at 30x.
