The Metropolitan is an inexpensive pen that writes extremely well. The pen feels nicely balanced in my hand, with or without the cap. I bought the red retrop op because the color, simply stated, is fun.

A standard in the hobby, and for good reason. The Metropolitan is a workhorse of a pen, always ready. It is a metal body and cap, so if you don't like heavier pens this one might not be for you. Personally, I love it!

I got an italic nib. I like the pen (Red Retro pop), but I'm a bit surprised. Perhaps I read too much into the hype or maybe I'm not quite used to the italic nib, but the pen does not write a well as I thought. It did write without any problem as soon as I inserted the cartridge. I normally it clean it first, but for some reason I didn't. It a good pen and I would be a Metropolitan again, but I was expecting to be amazed like I was with my safari and some other pens.
