Noodlers Konrad Fountain Pens Reviews
I picked this up to play with Nathan's flex nibs and to get real, honest to ghawd, ebonite. For the most part I haven't been disappointed in the pen itself, though the nib was unusably dry and scratchy. It would hard start and starve and pull fibers out of the paper, and was just generally impossible to write with in any real sense. I tinkered and fiddled and heat-set and prayed to dark gods, and then gave up and stuck a Goulet Pens stub nib in. After setting the feed to the nib properly it is now an absolutely lovely writer! The large ink capacity and the ink-view window are very nice as well. The piston seems to want to get slightly stuck about 2/3s of the way retracted, but once I realized I just had to twist a little harder it hasn't really bothered me since. Overall I'm happy with this purchase, though I wish the Noodler's nib had been better.

It smells. I thought people were over reacting, but it smells strongly. It's a great pen, though and I still reach for it first. I like the flex, the shape, the piston draw. It has a reputation as a tinkerer's pen. It really isn't something to worry about. All the pieces come apart and go together easily. I adjusted it once and now it writes the way that I want. Just look for a tutorial online.

This pen has come to be a favorite. It’s good looking and has a sort of vintage style. The Konrad works first time, every time, putting down a varied stroke width. I love it!

The Noodler's Konrad 1820 Essex is a beautifully made fountain pen with piston-style filler and a flex nib. I had a little trouble taking the piston apart when I noticed the piston felt tight going up and down. I found a video on YouTube on how to take out the piston. I still had trouble removing it but finally got it to open. I put a little Pen Chalet silicone grease on it and got the piston to move up and down easier. The pen writes well using the flex nib.

Think you know all about fountain pens but can't do simple things like adjust a nib? Don't buy this pen. This is a beautiful pen that will more than likely need to be adjusted at some point (maybe initially maybe later). If you're one of those incompetent losers afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while doing simple nib adjustments on a new pen, well, you'll never know the payoff of a perfectly functioning fountain pen you set up yourself. These pens are produced as "training pens" by Nathan Tardif (Noodler's Ink's owner). Excellent and beautiful pens for the price.

This is a beautiful pen. All the Noodler’s pens are beautiful. The Konrad has a flex bib but when not flexing writes a fine line. I really enjoy this brand of pens.
