This pen comes in various colors. This is the blue version of the pen. The cap actually just snaps off and it has a matching nib colored to whatever the clip is. So this pen comes in various colors: blue, red, black, orange. This nib and this clip are going to match whatever color pen you have. Then it has just the Preppy logo and Fountain Pen and the informational instructions about the pen here, printed onto the pen. Note: The nibs no longer match the color of the pen and are all silver in color.
You will be able to see the ink flow through the pen in this grip section. As you attach the ink, you unscrew the grip section from the barrel and included with each Preppy Pen is one ink cartridge. Now, you just simply insert that into the pen and then you can put that back on to use the pen. And since it's a cartridge style pen you can use different color inks, you don't have to use the ink that comes with it. You can always replace that with whatever color you would like.

These are pretty amazing for a sub $10 pen. You have to shake them a bit to get the ink flowing after they sit a couple of days. But they write well and I’m happy with them so far.

I bought a Platinum Preppy in Black with an EF nib, and it's great! It writes wonderful, thin lines that work well with my small handwriting, and it's very smooth. The price is also EXTREMELY reasonable for a pen that writes so nicely, so I completely understand why many people suggest this as an entry pen. It's astounding.
My only gripe might be that the resin/plastic body doesn't feel very sturdy. With a pen at this cost, I'd want to be able to throw it in my pen pouch and carry it with me, but I don't feel confident that it would survive. The build just doesn't feel extremely strong, and I'm worried about it breaking and then leaking ink everywhere.
Otherwise, I really have to praise the design. The spring-loaded mechanism in the cap is ingenious since it promotes longevity in the ink, and it's a lightweight pen whose nib just skates delicately over surfaces. I can see myself buying a few more of these (for inking with my everyday colors) because they work beautifully and feel dependable at an incredible price point.

I love these pens! For an inexpensive fountain pen, it's the best! They are comfortable to write with, come in lots of fun colors and very lightweight. I especially like the fine nib (.03). They round out my collection of fountain pens, from inexpensive to expensive.

A fantastic fountain pen, whether you're a beginner or not. I typically remove the logos on these pens by buffing with Nevr-Dull cotton wadding. They offer a great experience and are inexpensive enough to give to folks who are interested in using fountain pens but are 'afraid'. It makes the whole world of fountain pens seem more approachable.

No, sorry the Platinum pens have a proprietary ink cartridge and will only accept Platinum brand cartridges.Q:
Can the Platinum Preppy fountain pen be converted to use bottle ink?A:
The Platinum 500 ink converter will fit the Platinum Preppy fountain pen and may be purchased separately. This gives you the option with the Platinum Preppy fountain pen to use cartridges or bottle inks. In order to use bottle inks either add the Platinum 500 converter or you can also seal the threads using silicon grease and convert the pen to an eye dropper fountain pen.
