This is the black and rhodium version of the Sailor 1911 Large Fountain Pen. It has a black, glossy resin cap and barrel with chrome accents. On the top of the cap of the pen is a small chrome band that attaches to a chrome-colored clip. And then there are two bands that run around the center of the pen, or the bottom of the cap. We have a small band, and then on the larger band we have engraved into that larger band, "Sailor Japan Founded 1911." And then we have a small chrome band at the tip of the barrel, with a rounded end to the barrel. It also has a rounded end on the cap as well, kind of a bullet-shape to the pen.
The cap on the pen unscrews from the pen. It has a small chrome band between the grip section and the rest of the barrel, and then it has a chrome-colored nib. It's a 21 karat gold nib. It has the Sailor logo on the nib with 1911 and some other etchings. It's a nice looking nib. Sailor makes some fantastic nibs.
The nib section, or grip section, unscrews from the barrel to replace the ink. So you can insert either a cartridge or a converter into this section of the pen. Both a cartridge and a converter are included with the pen. Those will be found under the false bottom of the box. We have two ink cartridges included with the pen, as well as a Sailor ink converter and the writing instructions for the pen.
The cap also can be posted on the pen. This is a little bit larger than the 1911 standard, but it basically has the same look, with just a little bit thicker barrel. It's about the same length. This is a great writing instrument.

What can one say? My 16th Sailor. I love them. The nibs are just the best. This latest is the 1911L Anchor Grey and it’s so low-key and elegant. Sailor really represents everything a pen should be.

I was initially disappointed, greeting the pen out of the box. I could see nothing Large about it. Its Standard sibling must be slim indeed. But I got over that quickly enough. The writing experience is in a league of its own.

This is a really nice pen and the first somewhat expensive fountain pen I've ever bought. Beautiful looks. Solid, quality construction feels good in the hand. Fine-point nib gives a nicely variable line with just-right feedback on paper. I do wish it were a little heavier for the price, however. Service from Pen Chalet was awesome. Overall, I'm very happy with this product and business.
