Sailor 1911 Large Fountain Pens Reviews

Love the size, nib, and color. I got the Anchor Gray with a music nib, great writer. It's a phenomenal pen!

I was impressed by various reviews and videos of the Sailor 1911L. I wanted this style because I have huge hands and most pens are hard for me to use. I always considered buying a Meisterstuck Mont Blanc but the prices have been out of reach. I've used a friend's once and the size was perfect but I thought that perhaps the famous brand name is why it is overpriced. Since the Sailor is a much lower cost, roughly the same size with a 25K gold nib, and apparently as good as or better than Mont Blanc pens, I decided to buy the 1911L with the medium music nib. That pen is great but I am still having problems getting just the right angle to make the script how I would like. I tried to replace the music nib with a fine nib but that seems to be impossible. During the Pen Day Sale, I decided to break down and get another Sailor 1911L with a fine nib. I have been using it regularly and it is an absolute joy to handle. I am using a ink converter and love the Sailor ink. I am impressed with how gracefully the nib moves across the page with hardly any effort. I am writing a memoir, almost every day. I prefer writing this way more than with a computer. I love the flow of handwriting, the texture of fine paper, the look of the text, despite my poor handwriting. Using a computer takes away the sensual act of writing and must affect the style of writing. I will use the music nib for sketching, where its great character creates more flexibility. I hope some of you will consider taking advantage of the Black Friday deals and buy this excellent pen.

This is a beautiful pen, great size, classic looks; I have 2, the Fresca and the Gray Anchor. Both in M-F nib, which is a nice compromise, my Sailor Pro Gear medium is extremely wet and I can't use it on bulk legal pads at work. As with all Sailor nibs, there is a little feedback, but I like it. Right now, I would say the Fresca is my #1 fave pen in my collection (for some reason the Fresca nib is slightly better than the Anchor, not sure why).

Excellent pen. The smoothest nib that I own and a great pleasure to write with. Medium Fine nib. The anchor gray color is muted and appropriate for work, school, or at home. The shape of the pen is classic and conservative, with the rhodium accents rather than gold. The size is great. I was worried about getting a "large" but if anything I would actually want it a bit longer. Compares favorably to Pilot Custom Heritage 92 and Platinum Century 3776, which I also own. 100% recommend this pen and I look forward to any future US specific special limited edition colors.

I ordered the Anchor Grey limited edition and am quite pleased with both the appearance and, most importantly the performance, of the pen. Highly recommended pen for every day use.

Has become one of my favorite pens!

This pen is just phenomenal. The Anchor Gray color is stunning and I have nothing like it. I chose the F nib and it's lovely, smooth with some feedback. As always, Pen Chalet's customer service is outstanding.

This pen is lovely in the Fresca. The nib is smooth as butter and Pen Chalet customer service is fabulous. I like this pen so much I got it in both sizes -- the gold nibs are responsive and top quality, as is typical of Sailor fountain pens.

Sailor fountain pens are one of my favorite Brands. The built quality, the finish, the nibs and writing quality are hard to match at their price range. Their nibs run true to Asian nibs, about one size narrower than western nibs. A Sailor medium nib would be like a Lamy fine, the broad nib however has less of a difference from the western nibs.
I have large hands and this 1911 large feels perfect for me as does the Sailor Professional Gear. I find the proprietary converter to be small in ink capacity, the cartridges hold more ink and can be reused with your favorite ink. I can say watch Ron's review and put this pen on your short list.
