About the S.T. Dupont Hippocrates Sword Collection
S.T. Dupont's Hippocrates Sword Pen Collection honors medical professionals and healthcare providers around the world with a design dedicated to Hippocrates, the the Greek physician traditionally considered to be the founding father of modern medicine.
The pen’s design is built around the Rod of Asclepius. The well known symbol now associated with health and medicine logos worldwide is based on a Greek myth in which Hermes separated two serpents engaged in mortal combat using his wand. Just as Hermes restored peace in this Greek myth, physicians restore peace for their patients' health.
In the S.T. Dupont Hippocrates Sword Pen Collection, you notice the refinement of their Liberte pen's classic tapered design with added details and embellishments.
The pen's body is brass hand painted with natural black lacquer accented with yellow gold trim. Under the pen clip, the "Rod of Asclepius" is finely engraved in gold. Around the ring at the top of the pen cap, the name Hippocrates (translated into Greek) is also engraved.
The Hippocrates Sword pen design also includes a new, articulated clip shaped like a sword with the S.T. Dupont "D" handle. This is a reference to Edward Bulwer-Lytton's famous decree that the "pen is mightier than the sword." The fountain pen cap closes and posts with the iconic S.T. Dupont "click." Each S.T. Dupont Hippocrates Sword fountain pen is hand crafted in France and fitted with the S.T. Dupont 14kt gold nib.
