A bit disappointed - perhaps it performs best when used on better paper, and larger writing, but taking notes in my Shinola (a Moleskin look-alike made in the USA), the nib scratches and the ink feathers. Can't really make much use of the flex capability there. Will have to try it for letter writing, journaling, etc. Also prefer pens that are not so slim - less strain for longer periods of writing.

Had been contemplating this semi-flex (Soft Fine) pen for some time so gave it to myself as a birthday present. Wife said mail to her so she could wrap it. Surprise! Comes in an attractive black thin cardboard clear window flip-top box and outer sleeve. Pen is light and looks like a Mont Blanc until looking at the end of the cap and no white star. Section is smooth slightly tapered. It fits comfortably and stays in position in the hand when writing. Nib has modest flex to "M" width which comes with easy pressure I had to get used to from generally using a firm nib. Ink flows (Pilot black) readily with just the weight of the pen and no pressure. Pen posts if desired (I don't). Does not write with nib inverted as some like (not me). Everything great until after screwing on cap 4-5 times it began to bind and got worse each successive time. Not good or expected with a Pilot. Called Ron at Pen Chalet who kindly sent USPS postage mailer stamp and recommended send to Pilot in Florida. I included an accompanying explanatory letter. A week later pen returned with a no charge new body and perfect function, which continues. Apparently loose piece of debris caught in threads. Knocked rating down one star for product quality, but really more production/QC issue. But makes a good story. Thank you Pen Chalet and Pilot for excellent service--and a nice pen!!

This pen is a winner. I bought the red version, and I love it.

The nib is smooth out of the box, and it might be my imagination, but it's a touch more smooth than my Waterman Carene....

Chose the Medium nib from the "conventional wisdom" that Japanese brands have thinner lines. I don't see it. It looks like a very medium line to me.

The soft nib adds just a touch of variation. Subtle, but pressing a touch harder produces a noticeably thicker, darker line. I heartily approve of this writing nib.

The price for a gold nib pen is remarkable. It's worth buying on that feature alone! Some brands sell their gold nibs for the total cost of the pen!

One gripe - compared to my Franklin-Christoph Model 03 - it seems a bit less ergonomic. It's smaller and I can feel the cap threads against my finger as I write. I haven't written for a great length of time (over 45 minutes) yet so I don't know if it'll be a problem.
I have medium size hands for a man, in some brands I wear a medium glove, so the size might be an issue for men (or women!) who need Large size gloves.

Posted - the cap doesn't feel as secure as the Waterman or FC listed above, but it's doable. I don't post this pen.

Haven't had an issue with the proprietary converter yet. But not using the international standard is a bummer. Not a completely bad thing though.

Overall - I want another one of these. Eyeballing the black/gold version. Highly recommended for men/women with medium/small large hands.

The Falcon is a flex, soft nib experience, and it has a 14k nib. It is enjoyable to use and recommended for those people who would like this type of fountain pen. The best part of the transaction is the service from Pen Chalet! Fast response to inquiries, fast shipping from the time the order is placed, favorable pricing, and more!

I love the Pilot Namiki Falcon in Black resin/Rhodium trim with a fine nib! I bought this pen based on reviews online and it did not disappoint one bit! The look of this pen is classy and elegant without being posh. This pen blends in anywhere! I can easily bring it to a board meeting or use it at home to write in my journal, or use it at a training class to show off some writing skills. The sound of the nib when writing quickly on paper gives what I believe to be the proper pen writing sound and feedback feel. While I do own pens that cost twice as much the Pilot Namiki Falcon is just so much more fun and exciting to use!

The Falcon is a great pen at a reasonable price -- especially considering it has a gold nib. Falcon's are known for their semi-flex nibs - the nibs are fine for everyday writing and with a little additional pressure you will get a wonderful variation in line and beautiful shading with most inks.

Really fun nib, very springy with almost a brush like quality. I can see how this pen would be really great for writing Kanji. As they say it is not a full flex nib, but it will put a nice flourish on handwritten correspondence.
I have the soft fine and there is some line variation, but it does not do a needlepoint hairline. I find writing with it is almost addictive, and went through my ink in the converter the first afternoon. So perhaps, since it does flex and lay down some ink, it could be improved by shipping with a larger converter.
I am very happy with it and recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and interesting writing experience.

One of the best FPs with soft nibs out there; the other being Platinum 3776 series. EF nib is very very good for those that write small and/or like thinner variable thickness lines. I bought red version and use it for both writing and sketching/drawing with (currently Platinum Carbon ink--but have to find another waterproof ink that does not show through on most papers).
