GREAT PEN!! I was surprised at how much I really like this pen. Fits the hand perfectly. Thought this would be a "slippery" pen to hold for long periods. Not the case with this one. Fine nib is smooth out the box. Superb customer service and super fast shipping as always from the great people at Pen Chalet.

Just received the Essenza fountain pen today. It has such a pretty finish to the pen! It writes smoothly, looks and feels good in the hand, too! Great pen and a great price.

I ordered Sunny Skies. Before I purchased, I did my research. One reviewer stated that this pen's finish was flawless, so that is what I expected. Especially for a pen of this class. I was sad to see several small scratches on the finish of the pen cap, but aside from that, the pen is beautiful and is a pleasure to use. It has some weight to it and is a smooth writing experience. Had I paid full price, I would not have been happy with my purchase, but at the sale price, I am mostly pleased with this pen.

Absolutely beautiful pen at an incredible price! Love the blue and yellow metallic sheen of Sunny Skies. The overall build of the pen is good and solid with nice refinements such as the chrome end caps and clip. I like the size as it's a little chunkier and has some weight. The nib was a bit of a disappointment because it took some adjusting to get the correct flow and it does have some scratchiness in one direction(stub). I have not been collecting pens long so maybe having to adjust the nib is standard but... would rather not.

I decided on the "Storm Clouds" version of this pen, and that turned out to be my only real complaint about it. More on that in a moment.

The Essenza is a very sturdy feeling, well built pen; the overall weight is more than some people will like, but I love the heft... it feels great, even when posted. The octagonal shape of the body and cap is a nice change from the standard cylindrical pens that I own, and it's actually very comfortable in the hand. The grip section is a good size, and I like the moderately ornate finial on the cap. I wish that the details were molded or deeply engraved into the metal rather than laser etched, but I can live with that in a pen of this price.

The nib is a typical European sized medium, but maybe a little on the fine side. I like a very smooth nib with little to no feedback, and I find that this one has more than I like, but that's easy enough to fix. It is otherwise a good, solid nib.

Now, back to that finish. All of the photos that I've seen of the "Storm Clouds" finish (on this site and others) make it appear to be dark blue or navy (nearly black, in some photos) with some lighter blue and white swirls.

The pen that I received, though, is not. It's a medium grey pen with those swirls, and although I do like it, it's just not what I was expecting. Now I almost wish that I hadn't inked it up so that I could return it, but I am pretty happy with it.
