About the Retro 51 The Rocketeer! Big Shot
Brought to life in 1982 by writer/artist Dave Stevens, The Rocketeer is an exciting and beautifully illustrated homage to the Saturday matinee serial heroes from the 1930s through the 1950s. In 1938 Los Angeles, Cliff Secord, a local racing pilot, and barnstormer, discovers a rocket pack hidden by two gangsters fleeing the police. When he decides to take it for a spin, his life is turned upside down – in more ways than one! Cliff's pulpy adventures are set in Los Angeles and New York, and Stevens gave them a retro, nostalgic feel influenced by the King of the Rocket Men and Commando Cody movie serials, as well as pinup diva Bettie Page.

This clever design combining a printed barrel and acid-etched stonewash pewter utilizes the extra girth of the Big Shot rollerball’s body to depict the original rocket in all its purple glory! Complete with acid-etched details, stonewashed pewter accents, and a fiery top disc showing the rocket pack flames – this pulpy, comic-accurate representation of the rocket will set your collection ablaze. Limited Edition of 800. Each pen is numbered on the top ring and comes packaged in a custom black tube with gold foil stamped art! Each Retro 51 Rocketeer! Big Shot rollerball pen comes with one rollerball refill.
2. The Blind Bulldog: Comic book and aviation fans alike will fall in love with this Big Shot
rollerball pen depicting Cliff Secord’s infamous “Blind Bulldog” stunt plane! Created using a combination of acid-etching and printed barrel design, the Blinds Bulldog flies straight off of the pages. The striking yellow and black design features comic-accurate markings and airplane propellers on the top disc. In a departure from Retro 51’s other airplane pens, the engine faces the opposite direction to emphasize the Blind Bulldog’s iconic snub-nosed design. Limited Edition of 800. Each pen is numbered on the top ring and comes packaged in a custom black tube with gold foil stamped art! Each Retro 51 The Rocketeer! Big Shot rollerball pen includes a rollerball refill.

Used as gift for Christmas, purchased "The Blind Bulldog" in yellow and black. Very cool looking rollerball pen (IMO)

A fun rollerball to say the least. I love the weight of this baby. It's a bit larger than the typical Retro 51 Rollerball. Love how the design just seems to belong to the pen. The graphic designers and fabricators did a great job. A perfect canvas, IMO. It was quite a hit with the avaition crowd I hang with. It writes as good as it looks, too.
Pen Chalet did their usual wonderful job in packing and swift shipping. Just in time for the upcoming eclipse! It was the pen I was hoping to use to write down observations with and TADA!! Thanks, Pen Chalet folks.
