This is an absolutely beautiful pen. I love the nostalgic feeling I get when writing with it. I have the medium nib and it does have a sweet spot. I definitely recommend it to all Conklin collectors. I wish Pen Chalet carried the green one. I would definitely purchase it.

I purchased the spearmint stub nib and Halloween fine nib. Feels good in the hand whether you have big or small hands. It feels substantial without feeling heavy. It is definitely a versatile pen. You can use it as your daily writer or just to write cards if you want. Don't let the design fool you, even though it has bright colors it's still professional for the workplace. It's eye catching without looking like a pen a child would use. The filling system is magnificent and simple. If you have never used one you will have fun filling it. It's super easy and is much better than a converter and definitely better than a cartridge. The nibs are smooth and fun to write with. For some reason I don't like the medium nib for the Crescent. I always stick with the fine or stub after I bought the medium once. No problems with the medium it functions properly, but not as smooth or as fun to write with.

The true test of a Merchant's concern for his/her clients is determined when there is a problem to be resolved regarding a purchase. A pen performance issue is not caused by the Retailer; it is to be rectified by the manufacturer. But Pen Chalet came to the rescue! Ron ensured that the matter was handled and that I was happy with my pen. So Pen Chalet's quick action on my behalf as well as the quick response from the Vendor resulted in another extremely satisfied customer! When we purchase pens we are focused on product considerations and price. And we hope that the pen will behave to our liking. The reality is that quality control/assurance is not perfect. This is why the reputation of the Dealer from whom we buy our writing instruments is essential. His/Her relationship with the various manufacturers and willingness to represent us can make all the difference in the outcome. Thank You Pen Chalet!

FAQs about the Conklin Mark Twain Crescent

Q:
What is the ringed bulge around the middle of the pen body? Thanks.
Asked on Jun 3 2015 by Richard
A:
It is basically a lock for the filling mechanism. The metal arch in the middle of the pen is used to compress the bladder and draw ink into the pen. The ring that matches the color of the pen has a slit in it. That slit must be aligned to allow the metal arch to compress. When the slit is not aligned the metal arch cannot be compressed and so the ink will not accidentally be forced out of the pen by pressing down on the metal arch.
Q:
I imagine that the filling mechanism of the Mark Twain relies on a bladder? What is the durability of the bladder? Will it crack or dry out over a period of time?
Asked on Apr 26 2015 by Erich Zimmerman
A:
Yes the pen uses a bladder inside the pen to hold the ink. The bladders today are made with silicone which last much longer than rubber and are easily replaced by the Conklin technicians if necessary and are covered under Conklin's lifetime warranty. With proper care the bladders will last.
