Platinum Procyon Fountain Pens Reviews
No doubt about it, Platinum has hit it out of the park with this pen. I was originally sent the Procyon that was not the 100th Anniversary Edition, but Jen and Rob - as always - went way over their heads to make sure I received the pen I ordered. (Note: The only difference between the Anniversary Edition and the "regular" Procyon is some fancy, cool looking Anniversary logo on the back of the cap.) The box is certainly nothing to do backflips over, but it holds and protects the pen while containing the myriad documentation associated with this series. The finish is lovely. It is by no means a lacquer finish, but it isn't supposed to be. It feels great in the hand and the step-down is just enough to allow for a sure grip regardless of how you hold the pen. I followed my new pen ritual and rinsed the nib and feed in a very mild soap (Mrs. Meyer's) and tepid water after which I let the unit dry under my desk fan. I thereafter filled the pen with iroshizuku ama-iro ink (couldn't resist as it almost matches the color of the pen) and while stiff, it's smooth as glass and puts down a nice Japanese medium. This is a super solid pen on most every level. I'm a bit irritated that Platinum chooses not to include a converter with this pen if for no other reason than I believe the cost justifies a polite request for a converter. I am a bit OCD on the converter issue inasmuch as I do not switch converters between pens, ie. the converter that came with the pen stays with the pen unless, of course, a converter fails or is otherwise rendered unusable, but that has happened to me only once on a Parker Duofold Centennial that I have had since 1996 so it was entitled to a fresh converter in any case. In short, I highly recommend this pen for anyone looking to experience the pleasure of writing with a Japanese fountain pen and, moreover, see for yourself that a stainless steel nib can be just as good - if not better - than a gold nib. Lastly, it's worth reiterating that Pen Chalet is prompt, courteous, helpful, and the best pen sellers you could shake a stick at!

Great pen. I purchased with a fine nib which is very fine. My next one will be a medium nib. My OS Nitrogen shows sheen with the fine nib.

I got this pen only after a lot of research that suggested it was the at least pretty close to the ideal pen for me, and it turns out that research yielded excellent results. My Procyon in Deep Sea finish with a fine nib is a smooth, enjoyable writer, with an understated, modernized elegance. It's not flashy at all, but once one notices it, the pen really holds the attention. It feels great in my hand, and my enjoyment of writing has never, in my memory, been greater than with this. It is my everyday workhorse and my favorite general-purpose pen, even after trying out pens twenty times as expensive.

The Platinum Procyon is a smooth writing instrument. It feels good on the band and the nib (fine and mid) delivers continuos ink flow with no interruption. It writes clear and precise.

I bought this pen with absolutely no knowledge of the Platinum line, the bright colors of the Procyon line catching my eye. This is hands-down the smoothest steel nib pen I own. It has a smooth finish that makes writing comfortable. My orange combined with Krishna Jungle Volcano almost seemed to have been made for each other. With this pen, you get an amazing smooth writer for an extremely reasonable price.

Great colors! The metal barrel gives this pen a substantial feel. The matte finish is very attractive. I really like the Platinum "slip and seal" design. It's so nice to pick up a pen that hasn't been used for a while and have write a perfect line! This pen looks, feels and writes like a much more expensive pen. Did I mention color? I got the "Persimmon" (so far) and love the mid- century modern shades. Perhaps yellow will be my next purchase at Pen Chalet.
