Platinum Balance Fountain Pens Reviews
A green Platinum Balance was my first purchase from Pen Chalet. I bought it on a whim, just to try a Platinum, which I had not written with before. I am a journalist and, to everyone else’s amusement, have always used a fountain pen to take notes at Press conferences. So a fountain pen is an everyday tool for me and I need one that is comfortable and satisfying to use. The Platinum is now one of my three favorites, together with a 60 year old Parker Duofold, which still works perfectly and has similar mild feedback to the Platinum, despite having a gold nib, and a Montegrappa with a completely different, ultra-smooth experience. I find the variation in different pens is what makes a fountain pen so much more enjoyable than any other writing instrument and infinitely more so than a computer.

First I love Platinum products and have many. This is my second Platinum Balance and it looks like a more expensive pen and writes like one too. Beautiful body colour and gold trim and if one puts in a gold convertor, which I did, it looks amazing. Because the Japanese nibs are finer than European I ordered a medium nib and it is smooth and writes perfectly. Am using Platinum Mix Free Ink 'Aurora Blue' and it is a nice match to the pen. Overall I love this pen. Shipping to New Zealand was fast and efficient.

Did not like the fact that the black is actually a sort of metallic/black plastic blend. Would rather it be just black plastic. But as far as function....a great writer.

I first got the Balance in a Fine nib and it was quite scratchy. Pen Chalet was happy to replaced it to a Medium nib and now the pen writes smoothly. The medium nib is a wet writer, makes it easy to flow on the page. The clear nib is a nice characteristic of the pen, it brings out the colour of the ink when looking at the pen.
The build of the pen is quite solid. The cartridge converter I have is a bit stiff to turn out of the box, might need to do some adjustment to it.
The other thing that I don't like about the pen is that there is a white plastic cover in the cap that is quite out of place compared to the rest of the pen. It does make the pen look a bit cheaper in my opinion. The pen's body is very similar to the Pilot Custom 74 in terms of size and design.
This is a good pen for this price range.

The Balance looks good with writes well. I purchased the Balance for everyday use and it's working out. I made a small adjustment to the steel nib. as a nib meister, I've shaped it to an italic stub, absolutely gorgeous! These a good fountain pens for all users.
