Pilot MR Metropolitan Fountain Pens Reviews

I received my fountain in three days from Pen Chalet. I love this pen. I have used fountain pens for over thirty years and this has already become a favorite. The ink cartridges fit easily into the pen without any extra mess. I liked this one so much that I have already ordered another one, and received it within a couple of days too. I have been wanting to write with a fountain pen for years. I am a pen collector mostly rollerball pens (Mont Blancs, Aurora's, Visconti, Pelikan) I bought the Metropolitan and have been using it for a few weeks. I absolutely love it! I was surprised at the quality of the pen for the price. I was a little apprehensive about dealing with the ink but it was no problem loading the cartridge. The ink flows smoothly and dries quickly. Bought another for a friend of mine. Great starter fountain pen. Heck, it's a great pen period. Who needs to spend hundreds of dollars, when you can spend 15 dollars and have a nice looking, well balanced (feels good in the hand) and functioning pen!

The Pilot Metropolitan is the most remarkable pen made, at any price. It writes nearly as well as my $350 Pelikan M600, yet the Metropolitan costs an astounding $18. I have "invested" in three Metropolitan pens (for a grand total of $52.00 -- one was on sale), including two fine nibs in different colors for different inks, and the third pen is a medium nib. The fine pens write slightly dry, but have no problems handling difficult inks. The medium pen writes slightly wet and really makes special inks like the stunning but problematic J. Herbin "1670" inks come to life. I currently have one fine pen and the medium pen filled with the "1670" Ocean Bleu, and the pens start writing reliably every time. Even the really, REALLY difficult Rouge Hematite flows well and does not clog up the pens. The Metropolitan has a nice metal barrel, feels good in the hand and works brilliantly. These are not fancy pens, but they are good, solid and dependable workhorse pens that I really enjoy using. My only (slight)complaint is that the included vacuum converter is a bit on the small size, but the smaller Pilot CON-50 twist converter is a perfect fit. They get a hearty and unqualified "Recommend".

Pilot Metropolitians are the unsung heroes of the fountain pen world! Anyone gifted with a "Metro" as their first pen get to experience a quality made pen from the start. Beautifully balanced, styles from subdued to bold. I love these pens despite having much more expensive ones to use these dsys. These are fine pens that stand the test of time.

Pros: This pen is an inexpensive, good quality, wet writing, smooth writing, decent weight, balanced, fountain pen. Pilot makes some very good budget pens that write as well as some of their more expensive pens. In fact, this pen is smoother and has produces less feedback than my Pilot Falcon. I ordered a Fine nib and Asian nibs are typically a size smaller than European and American Pen nibs, but I'm amazed at how well it writes. No hard stops, no skipping, it just writes. The tapered section makes for a decent grip.

Cons: None. This pen is good for any fountain pen lover.

I love the reliable quality of Pilot Metropolitans. I have several with fine nibs and several with medium nibs. They all write wonderfully right out of the box and are fantastic for a nice price.
